I think its probably related to something in the registry being corrupted because of the Dell version of the driver package.

I see a lot of other users were having some of the same issues, and I think it is all because of it. If there is some sort of application that can clean the registry files for the ATI CCC, that would probably fix it. Or a clean install of Windows to completely wipe any trace of the Dell Video Driver package.

Just follow all your instruction and OD is still disabled. I never installed the dell drivers and this is a clean image with previous CCC version.

I believe I saw your earlier post with your GPUZ image, and I think I saw overclocked settings. If you have flashed different clock settings/voltage settings to the card, Overdrive will not be available. The card must be completely stock. That means 625MHz core, 1000MHz Memory, and max voltage of 1.0V.

If you have a backup of an original VBIOS with unmodded settings, or reflash the dell VBIOS so it can override your flashed settings, then you can get back to stock.

After you are at stock settings, then follow my instructions in that post, and it should work. This was the issue that The Revelator had, and he flashed back to stock clocks and he got overdrive showing in CCC.

Sorry forgot to mention that I put the stock vbios already and no go. I tried everything again just to see if I miss anything and same issue.

I'm using the Catalyst Software Suite. Is that correct?

    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Yes that is the correct one.

Man this is a wierd problem. Some people have no problem getting it working, and others are having issues. LOL.

The Revelator had the same issue you had, but when he flashed back to stock, his was working.

I can only suspect that maybe the registry is corrupt or something. I didnt have to do anything special except the steps I posted, and all worked perfectly.

The only thing I can think of that might fix the problem is a clean install of windows, but its a pain to do that.

I don't understand why as well. I just installed a clean OS a few days ago. strange. I'll dig more into it this week. There has to be some registry hack to fix this.

That was not the same problem I had. I didn't have the OD tab at all until reverting to the original vbios and then reinstalling the drivers,

I have had that problem once a long time ago on my desktop. I ended up having to reformat the system because the registry files for the CCC were messed up and were not being removed for some reason when uninstalling CCC.

If you know your way around the registry, try removing any ATI strings in there after uninstalling CCC.

Guys, if ATI/AMD CCC Package is installed instead of Dell driver on a fresh Windows, then the DisplayPort audio driver will not be installed, right? This audio driver can be found only in Dell driver.

Thanks for your reply. I have forgotten that the Driver Sweeper should not delete the audio driver. Anyway, I have rephrased my question. On a fresh Windows, I think that we have manually inject the DisplayPort audio driver from Dell driver into ATI/AMD CCC Package, because the CCC package does not contain that particular driver.

Also says Not supported on HDCP.. Number of channels is 2.

Anybody who can shed some light on this?

The clean (never modified) A02 vbios has to be in use at the time the drivers are installed, with all ATI drivers and software removed, so that you are using the Windows VGA as your display adapter/driver.

@MAUZ20 -- MLAA is not included in the 10.12 drivers.

I just find it odd how it works one some machines and not on others. There has to be a software or registry conflict somewhere.....

Besides what has been said on this thread, we have done nothing special. I used the same methods I posted myself. The Revelator was the one to find that the stock VBIOS has to be loaded for OD to work. If you have the stock VBIOS (A02 from the Dell page) and follow those steps, it should work perfectly fine.

Interesting detail. Once I got OverDrive installed and working, I reflashed the vbios to 750/1050/1.1v with the o/c limits removed. OD disappeared from CCC. When I flashed back to the original A02 vbios, OD returned. AMD wants to be sure we don't get off the reservation with this o/c business. LOL. Still, very handy for everyday use.

    hi Rev,

thanks for that. and yes, I have A02 VBIOS installed. I never got any modified ones. and since I followed the steps provided by M3TH0D1C4L, I'm pretty sure I got all the drivers and software removed. I'll try again tonight when I get home.

or maybe just forget it since I don't think I'll be using OD anyway.

This is certainly strange. I do have the A02 bios (unmodified) and used Driver Sweeper, like I always do, and still don't see that OD tab. Could it be a small variation in the hardware itself that is being identified by the driver?

I was suspecting this.....but from looking at other members' GPUZ values and information, everything looks the same, hardware, part number, etc.

Its a very likely possibility, but its going to be hard to prove and test out.

If the others who could not get the OD tab to show after flashing the A02 VBIOS and following my method posted can post their GPUZ screenshots so we can compare the hardware ID, etc, to mine and The Revelator, maybe we can figure it out.

At this point, I really dont know other than to try a clean install, or try what another member here stated and change the install directory if possible to create new registry entries.

That is all I can think of that the problem could be.

Here's what the new version of CCC looks like. Larger footprint, but more elegant.

You can download the modded Mobility 10.12 CCC2 Preview Win7 Package here: Download Mobility 10.12 CCC2 Preview Win7 [email protected]. It includes the entire package, including the HDMI/DP driver, Avivo, etc. not included in the official Mobility release. Overdrive is included and installed without hassle. Remember, this is unofficial, so don't be shocked if you encounter a glitch somewhere

I think they're the same. I think this is the desktop CCC2 Preview package with a modded .inf file for notebook installation.

One nice thing, you can adjust the size to suit your preferences.

So, I did a quick registry search for 'overdrive' and found a few entries. I changed them from 'Nobody' to 'All'. Then, under the start menu I did a restart runtime and now I see the tab!

Let me know if you guys who are missing the tab have similar luck.

So... what kind of temps should I be looking at? I noted the screenshots had 750/1050 so that's where I started -with 3Dmark06 I was seeing a top of 82c - is that too hot? I then tried the FurMark or whatever? And with that I was seeing ~90c? Is 750/1050 the 5870 clocks?

I am just running the stock cooling. I think I have some old AS3 in the basement I could try.

Thanks, M3TH0D1C4L for providing tips to enable the Overdrive tab. It works for me!

Thus, can I just use the Overdrive function to perform simple overclock on my HD 5850, without using other software like AMD GPU Clock Tool? I have not performed any overclocking before, thus would like to try something simple, as not to ruin my laptop.

Revelator mentioned that Auto-Tune button should not be pressed to avoid any problem. Okay, I just slide the tabs on both GPU clock and Memory clock settings, and subsequently click "Test Custom Clock" button. Then, the graphic card should be overclocked, right? As long as the temperature does not reach 80 C and the games run fine, then I guess that the overclocking is stable enough.

That's a little higher than you would prefer, but not dangerous as long as the 82C and 90C were VRAM temps and not the core. Attached for comparison is a HWiNFO32 screenshot of 5850 temps after a just completed 3dMark06 run at 800/1075, which topped out at 61.5C/core and 70.5C/VRAM (or memory controller).

Stock clocks for the 5870 are 700/1000.

Yes, you can use OverDrive as a one-stop o/c tool up to 800/1200 without using any other utility. Do exactly as you describe, adjusting the sliders to your preferred settings and then test. If it reports that it passed, then click on "Accept" to finalize the settings and then "Apply" to implement them. You're ready to go. The "high clocks" (3d clocks) will remain at the new settings as long as OD is enabled and will survive restarts until OD is disabled or the clocks are reset..

    Yes what he ^^^^ said.

But I myself use Furmark to test out the clock settings. It puts more strain on the GPU and will definitely show if you are artifacting or if it will handle the clock speeds. I usually run it for about 5-10 mins, and if it passes, its usually stable. Games dont run the GPU as hard as Furmark does, so its good to use for testing OC clock speeds.

Interesting to note that both MLAA and Surface Format Optimization are available on the 3d App Settings screen with the new CCC (CCC2 Preview). It had been previously reported that neither was included in Catalyst 10.12, but there they are. FWIW.

@All - If I install 10.12 and I have a stock version of Vbios 2 with stock voltage and clocks, will the AMD/ATI clock tool still work? Not the OC thing included with CCC but the older tool we all used before?

    Hey there, StevenX.

Doesn't appear to, at least if OD is enabled. When I hit Set Clocks, it returns "Settings Not Modified." With OD disabled, AMD Clock Tools works normally, but then OD is not available until you click Restore Clocks in AMD. It appears that they cannot both be active at the same time on this machine.

Thanks once again, Rev. It is good to know that CCC will perform a stability test on the higher speed.

Is there any other safer way to test the stability of overclocked clock speeds, other than Furmark? Dell-Chris M mentioned the danger of using Furmark in his post in Dell Community Forum. Okay, if I am to use Furmark, what precautionaty steps should I take to avoid the aforementioned risk?
