Edit: now available from official AMD site: ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Edit 2 (12-16-2010): If you want to test drive the new CCC, you can download the modded Mobility 10.12 CCC2 Preview Win7 Package here: Download Mobility 10.12 CCC2 Preview Win7 [email protected]. It includes the entire package, including the HDMI/DP driver, Avivo, etc. not included in the official Mobility release. Overdrive is included and installed without hassle. Remember, this is unofficial, so don't be shocked if you encounter a glitch somewhere.

The ATI 10.12 Reference drivers are now available here: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...obile/10-12_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe. Caution -- Hotlink; you click, it downloads. Early release of official drivers. This link is for Win7-64bit only and uses the old CCC format. The new CCC ("CCC2") is to be released soon, but is not currently available for mobility package. Installed smoothly over 10.10e Hotfix drivers and seem fine with limited use. Does not include the advanced 3d settings (MLAA, etc) from the 10.10 Hotfix series, which is no great loss given its limited use for most mobile platforms. Supposed to be a big improvement in Black Ops game, among others. Try at your own risk.

It seems like there is a bit of performance increase in 3DMark 11. Games seem to run a bit smoother in DX11, such as Crysis and BFBC2.

They seem real stable. Looks like a winner.

I just installed the new driver and the new CCC (NOT CCC v2) and something very strange happened. I noticed there is a "Overdrive" option in CCC in the menu. At the beginning, when I just installed it, I even got throttling at 1.05v 750/1050 which did not happen at 10.11. Then I download the CCC v2 from AMD and installed it, messing around with it for 2 hours and since there is nothing new in CCC v2 , I decided to return to old CCC. And there is no throttling anymore at 1.05v. I also noticed the overdrive option in CCC which allows me to OC but still keep PowerPlay unlike in AMD GPU tools which is very cool. I decided to go to 1.1v and test to see if it still throttles. Unfortunately, it still does and weirdly, there is no overdrive option in CCC anymore ?? Which I dont understand... Any ideas why Overdrive does not show up at different voltage rather than 1.05v ?

The Overdrive utility has been in the ATI CCC for a while. As for why its not showing up with certain voltages.....that is odd. I dont know about that one.

I dont get any throttling what so ever with my card. I have it @ 750/1100 in the CCC Overdrive with stock voltage and everything is fine. Perfectly stable with Furmark with highest temp @ 78C after 30 mins. Still stable with the new driver.

I would use GPU-Z and Furmark.

Load up GPU-Z and click on the sensor tab, then start up furmark and run the stability test with post fx and extreme burning mode on.

You should see a consistent red bar on the sensor tab with where you have the GPU load/activity. If you see breaks or drops in that line, or in any other one, such as the core clock, memory clock, etc then you have throttling.

Here is an example of throttling vs normal:

Yes that looks good. There is no throttling there.

If you had breaks in the bars, then you would have throttling. But your system is fine....except for those temps! Yikes man! That is high. Anything over 85C usually makes me nuts.

Why did you up the voltage to 1.1V for that overclock? I run the same core and higher memory clock at 1.0V. Try lowering your vcore back to 1.0v and definitely get some better thermal compound on that GPU. You really dont need more than stock 1.0vcore unless you plan to push past 800-900MHz on the core.

Very weird. I don't have OverDrive in the CCC included in the main Catalyst 10.12 download package. Up to this point at least, Overdrive has never been available to the M15x 5850's (or the occasional 5870) using the standard Dell/AW vbios. A few of us tried out an earlier MSI vbios which enabled OD flashed to the Clevo 5870's; it functioned but was erratic. Where are you guys getting Overdrive?

The only CCC2 Preview package I saw on AMD is for desktops. Is there a mobility version somewhere? Or a mobility modded version of the desktop package?

Nope. I just downloaded the Mobility Radeon 10.12 Drivers from ATI and they had Overdrive in the CCC. 10.11 also had it, along with previous versions I used since 10.8.

I didnt do anything special. I am running a Dell HD 5850 with the updated VBIOS from the Download Page.

How do I obtain the direct link for 10-12_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe, which installs both the driver and CCC at the same time? I find it quite a hassle to download the Catalyst Software Suite and wait for it to download the full driver package.

If you guys had the previous Dell version of the driver installed, maybe that might be causing the conflict with the AMD version.

Here is what I do when I install my drivers:

    1. Download and install driver sweeper. But do not run the program yet.

    2. Download the ATI/AMD CCC Package from ATI.com. I used the application which downloads the actual package to the desktop here. Download it but do not install it yet. Just leave it on the desktop.

    3. Go to control panel, and uninstall the Catalyst Software, and when asked, select the option to "Express uninstall ALL ATI Software".

    4. Once completed and it asks for a reboot, do NOT reboot. Select the option to reboot later. At this point, start up the driver sweeper you downloaded and installed, and check the box for ATI Display, and click clean.

    5. Driver Sweeper will ask you to reboot, NOW you can reboot.

    6. After you have rebooted and gotten back to the desktop, run the CCC Package you downloaded and install.

    7. Reboot after completion and enjoy!

I personally have never ever used the Dell version of the driver. It is possible that is causes something in the registry to never show the OD tab. If it still doesnt show after this, I would try a clean install of windows and install only the ATI/AMD Version, not the dell version.

EDIT - **Your card must be at stock factory settings (625/1000/1.0V) in order for Overdrive to show up in CCC following this method. Otherwise it will not show.**

No OD in the CCC for me. I uninstalled and installed it CCC but no luck. Is the OD found in the CCC application under the "Graphics" tab? Or is it will a separate CCC application?

It is found in CCC under the Graphics tab, right below where the PowerPlay sub tab is located:

Did you try using the method I posted above with cleaning the drivers, etc? Did you previously have the Dell Version installed?

Success. In addition to the steps outlined by M3thodical, it appears that you need to have the original vbios (625/1000/1.0v) installed at the time the drivers are installed or Overdrive will not install. (Remember all those missing OverDrive settings warnings we get in RBE when loading a modded vbios?)

But now I run into an anomaly. With OD disabled and 3d clocks set to 625/1000, the voltage is reported as 1.0v, as expected.

BUT, with OverDrive enabled and clocks set to 700/1050 (or even set to 625/1000), the voltage is reported as 1.15v. Where does that come from? As you can see, temps are way too high at that voltage. AMD Clock Tool shows the maximum selectable voltage as 1.0v. After installing and enabling OD, I tried AutoTune, but interrupted before it finished (thought it was frozen). Any thoughts?

Which VBIOS did you flash to the 5850? Did you use an original backup or the one from the Dell webpage? I am currently using the new VBIOS A02 (something like that) from the dell page.

I have not seen that before....its wierd how the voltage increases as you increase the clock speeds. Now that you have the ati driver installed, have you tried flashing to the A02 VBIOS?

I remember reading a while ago on the 5850 thread, when the A02 VBIOS was released, the 5850's were completely reset to factory standards and wiped any mods to the VBIOS previously made when flashing to the A02 VBIOS. I would try to flash to that VBIOS and check the voltages and OC settings again.

The problem was AutoTune. I have been using the original A02 vbios throughout the search for OD (freshly extracted from the Dell/AW file and flashed). After once again removing all ATI drivers/software, cleaning out the registry and re-installing the 10.12 reference drivers, I enabled OverDrive but did not run Autotune. All is well. Now when I overclock to 700/1050 (or whatever within the limits imposed by OD), the 3d voltage remains at 1.0v and the Furmark temps stay under 75C. Next, I need to reflash a modded vbios with higher voltage and with the o/c limits removed and see if OD is still viable once it gets installed or whether it refuses to load against the modified vbios.

Thanks for your help. If I'm limited to 1.0v and 805 core, then OD probably won't be part of my normal configuration, but it's good to know it's there and how to find it again if I lose it.

Nice find. So autotune was causing it.....no wonder. I never ran it. lol.

I always tested using furmark. I also noticed the 805Mhz cap. But I figure, it can run just about everything at 750/1100 for me, so I dont need to go further. But for benchmarking, I would use a different application.

Yes use the link that inap posted. The VBIOS is located on the Dell Download page for the M15x under Video Drivers. It will say something like AMD BIOS - 5850.

Follow the instructions in the VBIOS application to install on a flash drive or burn to a disc. Then reboot the machine and press F12 to get to tbe boot menu and boot from the media you chose. It should flash the VBIOS without trouble.

It was reported in several threads in the ATI Driver section at Guru3d ( Videocards - AMD - ATI Drivers Section - Guru3D.com Forums). I don't remember who said what in which thread, but you might try here - AMD Catalyst 10.12 - Guru3D.com Forums - and here - Catalyst 10.12 with CCC2 on AMD site - Guru3D.com Forums, but also browse other recent threads. This is one of the primary homes of the ATI/AMD gaming driver modders, but be careful what you use -- there are some real experts over there, but an equal number of idiots and showdogs.

I cannot get this to work.
I uninstalled CCC via disk clean up.
Uninstalled ATi drivers via Driver Sweeper from Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
    Downloaded the Vbios from Dell.
Burn the Vbios to a CD.
Flash the VBIOS by CD boot
    Installed CCC 10.12
and still no OD in CCC.

What am i doing wrong?! I dont Understand!

Did the flash say it was successful?

I dont know if it makes a difference or not, but I flashed the VBIOS when I had the drivers installed. I dont think it would matter though as the drivers are not active in dos or BIOS.

You did everything correctly to my knowledge. Did you make sure to press "Reboot Now" right after driver sweeper cleaned? Because if you dont press it at that moment, it still keeps some of the driver files on the disk, as some of them can only be removed by a reboot. If you clicked reboot later after driver sweeper cleaned, for some reason it doesnt remove some drivers that need a reboot.

Also, when you uninstall the drivers from the control panel, try deleting any ATI folders in C:\Program Files.

I downloaded Driver Sweeper v2.7.5 from here:

How do I know if I have the the current vbios Version: 13B96102.105, A02?

Also I have already flash to 750/1050/1.0V, Can I follow M3TH0D1C4L instructions to get the OD in CC or do I have to go back to stock clocks and then follow his instructions?

DboogieC, is this a Marx Brothers' routine??? To view CCC, right click (push down on the right hand button of your mouse) while the mouse pointer (the arrow on your screen) is pointing at the desktop (area outside an open window). When the popup menu appears, click (left mouse button) on "Catalyst(TM) Control Center" (top selection if CCC is installed). Viola! CCC will open on your desktop. If CCC does not appear as a selection on the popup menu, then it has not been installed. Lot of people ready to help, but you've got to explain the problem you're having more clearly. Otherwise, we're forced to guess based on cryptic comments ???

    You have the current VBIOS.

According to The Revelator, he said he had to revert to the stock BIOS. I dont know if it doesnt like the modded clock speeds or the modded voltage of anything greater than 1.0V. Just to be safe, I would flash back to stock and then try my method.

DbEdit oogieC, I wasnt sure what you meant by the CCC not on the desktop. I was assuming you meant that the ATI Control Center function wasnt showing up when you right clicked on the desktop?

Edit - What The Revelator said. lol.

Yea i got that, but when i click the CCC it appears to be loading but never comes up?

even if i try to open from the start menu, anything that has to do with ATI doesnt open, but tries to.

EDIT: i have the latest vBIOS.

It sounds like the installation was corrupted in some way. I would recommend completely uninstalling all ATI drivers and software using the methods described earlier by M3tholog1cal all the way back to the basic Windows VGA driver and then downloading and installing the ATI 10.12 reference drivers again -- ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver. There's really no shortcut to a stable installation. When something goes wrong, just start over and do it again.
