Ok so here is the deal:

I will be soon deciding what video card ill upgrade to for my M15x, only one problem:
    which one?

I know that the 6990m is better than the 6970m but on these forums there is more support for installing the 6970m.
I have already educated myself on everything in need to know upon installation of a 6970m, is the 6990 any different?
Money is not a problem and i am willing to pay to top dollar for one anyway.
If I get my hands on a 6990m, I would like to know:

    What problems I could encounter.
long term effects. (If you have one, that is).
Any installation differences from the 6970m. (Different or modded drivers, or how it fits in the chassis)

If for some reason I cannot use/get a 6990m; I will be getting a 6970m anyway. (The posts in this forums have given me confidence that i am competent to install one; thanks guys for the info.)

I'm using a 6990m and it's all the same in installation and drivers as the 6970m
there might be some problem if you have a powerful processor like a 920/940xm and you try to overclock both but I'm running in stock and everything is great
I say go for the 6990m

other than heat problems that you need to repaste and repad (it's quite hot), go for 6990m. you'll love it

there is a lot to choose from and the guy that posted before you used shn-itsu, From what I have heard its the best you can buy but its very expensive. I'm gonna use MX-4 because its non conductive and thats what I was recommended by some people on here in the m17x forums :) just waiting for my card to get here
