[OFFTOPIC] I'm back to the forum after my adventure on the Alienware Backpacking Challenge, thank you all for your support, check out my signature and please help me on the final voting. Thanks!

I am thinking on buying a 240W adapter cause my original M15x 150w adaptor runs extremely hot when playing crysis 2, I found this one in ebay, Do you think the price is ok? Is it the real Dell M17x adaptor?

That Amazon offer looks lgreat. Looks and sounds just like the one I bought from Dell for $119.95 for my M15x and just like the one that came with my M17x-R3.

you will still get throttling if that's what you're asking.
the motherboard still limits it somewhat.

however you can usually push more than 150w and in this case, pushing it at or a little above this limit will not result in a super hot adapter.

if you're 150w psu is prone to cutting out like mine was (blue ring turns off)... the 240w will help/stop that.

cool .. i guess ill worry about it when i cross that road ...

FYI, i've got 4 150W PSUs! ... 1 original, 1 ordered, 1 refurbished unit because the 1 i ordered was late and 1 new one because i complained that the 1 i ordered had a UK plug head instead of an NZ plug head. 0.o .... Thats Dell support for you =D

Got my new 240W adapter, wow it's huge!! I think it's the slim version, can't imagine how would be the bulky version!

I used to get shutdowns when running Vantage and 3DMark06. I'll try benching again soon and I'll tell you if there is any improvement.

Mostly, it will just be cooler at the same loads. Still, I'm happy to have it.

I just tried the new adapter on 3Dmark06 and Vantage and no shutdowns at all at the first try! Before I could never end any of the two tests cause I was always getting shutdowns, so as per my experience the 240W makes a difference when running on 6970M plus extreme processors!

well...it might just be your old 150w psu got vdropped
because of the limitation of the motherboard, the max power input is same

so the only difference with the 150w and the 240w is that the 240w will run cooler? =S

Lol pretty much) M15x can use the maximum of just above 60% of the wattage that the 240W can supply. But it means that the adapter won't be pushed to the limit most of the time as it is(in my experience anyway) with the original 150W M15x adapter, thus prolonging the life expectancy) I'll be getting one for sure at some point.

I just got a 240W adapter since my old one was running hot enough to cook a steak.. It was only £30 on amazon - I received the Flextronics Flat version. Works fine and shows up as 240W in the bios (along with the warning which I promptly disabled)..

I had previously tried the Unlocked M15x 09 Bios = does anyone think that might help with the new power supply or is the power regulation deeper on the motherboard?

As per the previous replies, your adapter will just run cooler. You wont be able to utilize more than 150W because that limitation is in the motherboard itself =(
