Hello everyone! I am the owner of an Alienware M15X with the following specs:

    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    BIOS: Ver A08 1.00

    Processor: Intel i7 Q 740
    Memory: 8GB
Video: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series (the 5850 I believe?)

I have two problems. First, I am getting REALLY bad FPS in a lot of games that I would imagine I would have no issue playing at all. I can run WoW at 25 FPS with everything on high, bloom off, where as on a much older gaming PC I can run it at 60 FPS no problems. Dead Island on Low runs even worse! Deus Ex: HR stutters like crazy. I have no idea what the issue is here, I have the latest video card drivers for the 5800 mobility series. It also overheats and just flat-out turns off if I play any graphically-intensive game for more than 30 or so minutes, and seems to generally lag on any video application.

Second problem: Occasional Blue Screens of Death. Once it was a "USB_Bugcode" error. Second time it was "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION". I have the BlueScreenView dump for the second BDOS, but not the USB_Bug one.

Please help! This is very lame, considering this laptop is supposed to run modern games on relatively good settings without issue.

I can provide DxDiag or any other information that would help. Thanks a lot!

For your first problem, do you have stealth mode on? The little radar-like button to the very right; if your games have low FPS, try tapping that button and it should enable your 5850. That happened to me before and I freaked out at first.

I'm installing the latest Command Center right now to install the Stealth Mode Indicator and see whether that is the case. I'll let you know.

The program I use to check my temps is hwMonitor, others also use things like realtemp, hwinfo32/64, gpu-z (for your gpu only obviously).
