Is your power plan set to high performance? What are your 3d application settings in Catalyst Control Center set to? Set them to performance or use application settings. Those settings can really impact performance.

BF3 sure is giving my card a workout (260m) have to drop size down to 1280x720 on low to get a smooth 60 fps, even that bogs down to 20 fps everynow and then.

Looks like it is time to think a bit more about that upgrade!

True story. I tried OCing my 260m to squeeze a bit more performance out of BF3, got higher temps for negligible fps increase (if any).

The reality is the 260m just hasn't got the beans.

6990m in the m15x really gets tested by BF3.
    memio easily over 100C
undervolted to 1.025 (heh same stable minimum for all my cards it seems) has kept it under 90C so far.

920xm at stock since the laptop was already struggling with the heat and cpu has less effect on fps then the video card clocks.

oh running on ultra settings btw, smooth as butter.... melted butter it seems.

@Allawi: Do you have the 900p screen?

@Mexicools: Repaste time I guess... my 6990m stayed at 80°C, memIO about 82°C. Did you overclock the card?

Finally had a chance to play a couple of hours yesterday, I'm getting about 40fps on Ultra, but with high shadows, and no AA, vsync on and about 50fps when I disable hbao.
    CPU and GPU stock.

Does anyone know how to get rid of those stupid lens effects... I mean it's an fps, since when do I see lens flare and similar stuff with my eyes?

Well cheap goggles can cause that lens flare effect, the flare can get worse if your lens are covered in dust/dirt. The flare is terribly exaggerated in the game and has gotten me killed a few times. I haven't found a way to disable that effect yet, but I'll be on the lookout.

@slv: No i havent overclocked it, plus i still have to do a bit of modding to seat the card a bit better, i think the major problem is the heat pipe sitting right on top of a gpu component(separated by thermal pad which doesnt seem to be doing a good job, the gpu is actually idling pretty good around low to mid 40c. im think about doing the widezu mod to heatsink(slightly bend the heat pipe. but on high or on ultra i only disable motion blur every thing else at there respective setting.

    Now highest temp of 88c

Hey guys, my Battlefield 3 is starting to crash again after playing for around 10 minutes, and I don't know why :/ my temperatures only go up to 80C, do any of you have that problem?

Is having an i7 620m also "bad" enough that I should upgrade it, or is it not necessary?

I'm just not sure what is causing my computer to crash :/ @JiBBa, I don't have sound issues, but my computer goes from really smooth frames to really laggy frames, alternating, and eventually it'll just crash and I have to hard reboot my computer.

Yes. My weapons sound would cut out sometimes while firing. Wouldn't come back on for a while. And it sounded like other vehicles or noises around me were cutting in and out too. Hasn't happened in the last couple days for me though.

Just to add to it, in a tactical environment, soldiers wear ballistic goggles or sunglasses. Which actually do produce a little lens flare, especially if the get dusty. I guess this is part of the realism in the game. It's a double edge sword. On one hand, the protect you from a little flack, which you'd want to protect your eyes in an environment with IEDs and RPGs, Mortars, Rockets, VBIEDS (carbombs), but on the other hand, it does reduce your ability to see a little.

That said, in a tactical environment, I always wore eye protection, but in the game, I could absolutely do without it. The only comfort for some who sucks like me is that everyone else gets it. I guess I just need to keep the enemies in front of me, and my back to the sun :p

Yeah, true... I always wear googles in tactial environments as well, especially during "MOUT" or whatever this is called in English., and some lens flare is inavoidable, but nowhere as crazy as this... imo it's just too artifical. It looks nice on screenshots, but so far I've never seen like 15 hexagons with my own eyes... :)
Seriously... I think it's just too much.
Anyway, it would be nice if it was possible to en-/disable it manually (in the game :D)

But you've got a good point there... at least everyone has to bear with it.

Yea, although I'm with you. I've never seen it as bad as it is in the game when we do urban ops or any other sort of ops. I wish you could disable it. I don't think anyone would enable it. :p

I'm absolutely amazed at this game after having tried MW3 as well. 5850m oc'd to 800/1050, laptop on balanced mode (forgot to put it to high performance), on ultra with no hbao/ssao, no motion blur, and AA set to 2xMSAA. Lag next to nothing.

I got the card from table21, and i still feel as though i can push this card further. But no need yet. Haven't checked my framerates through any such program. I just gauge it by how well the game reacts to my keystrokes/mouse. So ya next to nothing lag. Oh and max temp was like 73-75c.

on mt gtx 260m which is a bit lower than the 5850m I am getting on lowest possible settings 1080p only 30 fps. Sometimes even lower. Is there something wrong. Is it time for a driver update or something like that. I shouldn't be getting that should I.

@ultimatebeast, there is nothing wrong with your card. The gtx 260m is not a little bit lower than the 5850m. I've used both and I'd say in comparison to newer games its a much larger margin that you are thinking of. Due to the fact that the 5850m is gddr5, dx11, and has a lot more overclocking headroom.

EDIT: btw, when I had my 260m and played the bf3 beta I was on low settings as well and wasn't getting the best of framerates either. With my 5850m I can play 1080p bf3 nearly maxed out.

I have a similar set up to you with the gtx460m. I was wondering if you could tell me your exact settings. And are you overclocking your card too? I can't seem to get the fluidness I like without keeping everything at Medium. But the game looks so nice with higher settings. Im trying to find a balance between the two. But so far I'm kind of disappointed. The 460m isn't performing as well with the game as I thought. I'd expect to be able to go over Medium settings.
