Hello guys....long time reader, first thread. ;)

I had searched through the forums quite a bit, learning much info on these notebooks. But I was wondering if anyone with an M15x has experienced this issue before?

Maybe 50% of the time, whenever I try to eject a disc I inserted to install a game or watch a movie, the system will completely freeze for about 10 seconds, and the disc will not eject. At first, I thought this was because of the DVD Drive, but apparently it isnt. Then I figured it was the touch strip, so I tried to eject the disc by going to My Computer, and right click ejecting the disc drive, which also caused a continuously spinning "thinking" circle and the whole system would crash, needing a hard reboot. I originally had a DVD RW drive in my system (model GA31N) and replaced it with a bluray reader (Model CA10N) and it still has the same issue. This leads me to believe its a software problem somewhere?

Whenever this occurs, I also get problems shutting down the PC. It will stay at "Shutting Down" or "Logging Off" forever. I have to manually hard shutdown the system. But when the system reboots, I can eject the disc at the BIOS screen or while Windows is loading.

This happens with any type of media....BDROM, DVD, CD, etc.

Anyone have a fix for this, or have experienced this with their system? I have tried reformatting the system and reinstalling everything to no avail.

The M15x is only 3 months old. Specs:

    i7 720QM
    HD 5850 1GB
    256GB Samsung SSD
    Bluray Drive
    900P Screen
    Intel 6300 AGN'
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM

    Any help is appreciated.

That's really a weird issue... especially that it still exists after drive change and reformatting... I think you should call Dell, I think they have to send you a service guy...

Yea I did that last time....and I ended up getting a replacement M15x which I currently have now because the "tech" ripped out my display cable without lifting the latch first, and then broke my DVD drive rail. Complete fail. My original notebook was a Nebula Red notebook and they sent me a Cosmic Black. lol. Not that it bothers me that much....but I paid the extra $$.

I think I may have it figured out....but I am still testing some things. Ever since I uninstalled the OSD application, I havent had the freezing or eject problems. Do you guys still have the OSD application installed? Do you think I might have some sort of faulty hardware? I doubt its the disc drive or the Windows installation, because like I said I just got a brand new BDROM drive and reinstalled Windows again with the same problem.

But so far, with the OSD app removed, everything seems ok.

Well at least I am not alone. LOL. I thought it was the only one.

Ok well I just finished installing 3 more games, and I have not had the freezing issue since.

inap, if you also experience this, try removing the OSD application from your system as well and see if you still get the same problem. I think I have found the bug being the OSD application.

Ahh. True. Yea same with me, but it seems to happen more often with the disc being in the drive for a longer period of time, like installing a game, or watching a movie, etc.

I am still going to run without the OSD for a week or so to see if it happens again. If not, then I guess it can be safe to say it is the OSD applicatioin. Plus if you look at the app, it is pretty outdated on the Download Page. You would think they could have updated it by now......

It's really hard to replicate. I've used the drive around 20-30 times and have gotten it twice. Hasn't happened in over 3 months though..

This also leads me to believe its definitely a software problem.

So far, I have used the disc drive probably about 20 times in the last 3 days, and I have not experienced this issue again, since I removed the OSD Application.

I had this problem and asked the dell support to replace my original dvd reader (hs-something dont remember the model, from lg) with another one (TSSTCorp) and no freezes now, and no dvd reading issues.

I had the freezing with some dvds that dont read on my original dvd reader, but on other laptops the dvds worked fine. When I tried to eject, freeze for some seconds and no eject.

The same thing happening for me. Still got it. It only happens when the disc could not be read or cannot read properly. When i try to eject it, it freezes. Well, sometimes, I let the disc in for bout 10 mins then eject it works.

hmm never had this problem till now... but seems like the m15x has a lot of strange bugs... dont wonder why they discontinued it in that case.

just for asking have you installed the newest bios, osd, command center and disk drive drivers?

When I had the system, what seemed to fix it for me was a new DVD drive. I called Tech Support, and someone came out and installed a new one. But it still happened occasionally, just not as often.

I don't know if it was the type of media, or if it was just an issue with the DVD drive/motherboard, but it was really aggrevating me to the point where I got rid of it.
