Hey all, I am planning on getting skyrim but I was sowndering should I get it for xbox 360 or pc. I have an Alienware M15x with an 840qm ans 8gb ram it has a gtx 260m video card. What settings would I be able to play the game on and how many fps. PLus, what would be better overall experience. Thanks everybody.

I can't give you too many specifics but I would probably say go for it on Xbox. The 260m is a good card but its getting up there in age. I would guess probably medium-ish settings, maybe high but might slow down at some points. I always prefer getting console games when its an option as well to be honest, less stuff to go wrong/ tinker with/ driver issues. Unless of course you enjoy that sort of thing.

On the flip side of that, I guess there is mods for the PC version if you ever get into those. I also read that the graphics aren't actually that much improved since Oblivion so you could probably still enjoy it on your Alienware. Bit of a toss up at this point I guess haha.

I run it on my m15x which has a GTX260.

Settings on high - runs just fine. There are momentary slowdowns during indoor scenes when there is a lot of smoke/mist/whatever in the air. Not really anything that annoys me when I play.

Ya I looked into it a bit more. Looks like you can probably run high fairly well, depending on if your running at 1080p or not. Even then 1080p should be in the 30-40 fps range so still playable.

There will be endless mods for years to come if you get Skyrim for PC.

Definitely get it for pc. From what I have heard the Xbox version is having some problems with textures. And even if you can only run it at mid setting now (I would guess closer to high). You will be able to play it better later, on your next pc with all the mods the graphics will get better and better. Were as the xbox version will stay more or less the same

It's basically a console port so it's surely gonna run pretty well. And it's only DX9 to boot.

What a sad day it is when Bethesda start hedging towards porting an Elder Scrolls game ONTO the PC.

    Raaawr!

Ok, thanks everybody. I would also like to know one more thing. This is my biggest problem and I would like someone to just fix this for me. Ok let me start by saying as you know there are laptops that need to have their windows installed and when I got my AW I thought that was the case. So I pop the reinstall cd in. Next thing I know the pc is back to the store for a matter of months. They told me my drivers had gotten wiped. When I got the pc back it just didn't feel right. There were errors poping up and all. I mean the pc doesn't seem fixed and I know my drivers aren't there. So I rarely ever use it. What I want is someone to please help me on how to reinstall everything and just set it up from ground zero. This time I really don't want to set it up. I have tried everything. I tried getting new drivers from Nvidia and my system crashed and needed a complete restore. Is this a problem with Alienware's because the reinstall disk just does not seem to work. So I am going to ask you to give me a guide on just starting from ground zero as in reinstalling everything and then just putting everything back in like drviers. Please help me. This is the reason as to why I am so hesitant to buy pc games. I know it isn't working how it should be I don't even have the pretty wallpapers. So Please somebody help me get this thing back up and running to its former glory. With a full reinstall ground zero startup and how to just reinstall EVERYTHING with drivers and new windows because there is something wrong with the programming. I need a full guide. Thank You guys so much to everyone.

follow this link and it does a good job of directing you to the drivers and which order to install them in read the whole post properly and you should be ok

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/556721-how-clean-windows-7-install-driver-install-order-guide-alienware-systems.html

it just tells you what order to re-install the drivers in and where to get them from.

but basicly all you do is

    1. re-install windows - boot from the windows 7 install disk follow the instructions let the computer do its thing

    2. when windows has finished installing you will only have the basic windows drivers installed so you will need to get the drivers from the guide i posted above and install them in the order as the guide says.

It is best if you download all the drivers before you re install windows put them on a usb stick

if you are unsure about how to install windows 7 follow this guide How to Format and Reinstall Windows 7 - YouTube

skip the first 1min of the video i amsume you no how to boot from a dvd. On the m15x i think you press f2 then select the dvd drive

oh and i best put in I share no reposablity if you screw your system up (you shouldnt if you follow what i have said) but best to be safe than sorry

hope all goes well if you get stuck pm me and i will see what i can do
