First off. I just bought a used m15x. When I turn it on it gives an error about the power adapter not being the one shipped with the laptop. Also, I have to have the plug about 2/3 of the way in. It won't work if the plug is in all the way. Also the battery is shot so I was wondering if anyone on here knew of a good mfg to get the battery from.

It sounds like the laptop is modified. Bigger power adapters can be used to provide more power for more modern parts. If it's not then just make sure the adapter is the stock 150w. You can change whether or not you get the alert in the bios. I picked up a 9 cell battery on ebay for about 50 bucks. It works great but i never use it as I run it strictly off the adapter. There is a pin pull mod for higher watt adapter so it gives full power to the laptop. You can buy an L-shaped adapter from amazon and pull the center pin on that then connect it to the laptop so you don't have to modify the adapter and are able to power the components without throttle. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and if you search the threads you can learn more about modified m15x's. Enjoy that beast it is a very upgradable laptop.

Could you please elaborate on the "pin pull mod". The adapter says a max of 240w but it seems like the parts are stock. I7 720. Gt 260. And there is only one pin on the power adapter. Should this mod make it to where I have to have the adapter plugged in an exact amount " about 2/3" the laptop won't even power on if its just a bit off.

if you pull off the pin it will be able to power it fully plugged in but it won't charge the battery. But it wouldn't do that anyways. Honestly with those specs you are better off getting a 150w. I suggest keeping the 240w to one day upgrade your laptop but you could sell it to pay for the other adapter.

Thank you for your reply. I must just have a loose DC jack then.

It does seem like that is the issue. You can try looking for the jack online. If you can't find it, you may need to look for the motherboard.
