Hello, I was thinking about buying a Alienware m15x off a person on craigslist for 400. He says it just needs a new hard drive. This is what he said on his post "Specs are as follows, CPU-i7-740QM Quad CoreRam-4GB Operating System-Windows 7 64Bit Video Card- ATI 5850 HD Hard Drive- 750GB 7200RPM DVD Drive-SATA Dual Layer DVD Writer Has Manual and Restore Software Everything works great and performs flawlessly, play many games on medium to high graphics with plenty of FPS." The laptop has all of those except for a hard drive. So what hard drive should I buy for it and I'm a noob with laptops/computers so should I go to geek squad and have em install the hard drive or should I not waste money with them and do it myself? Also after installing the hard drive what's the next step? Thanks in advance.

installing a hard drive is very simple thing to do and can be done by a beginner.
performance wise I would personally suggest a ssd drive either 120GB, 240GB or 256GB versions are actually cheap. the sata ports within the system are all sata2 so even if you were to buy a 2.5" sata3 drive they are backwards compatible to sata2 standards.

after installing the drive you simply start of with the reinstallation process of installing the OS (operating system)(ie) windows 7/8 or whatever you decide. during the installation just make sure you format the drive firstly which will also active any or all partitions you create. a very simple process.
    hope this info helps.

there is nodoubt many videos on youtube or simply by general internet searches and will show you how to do a reinstallation of the OS
