I do not have CC installed and Fn F11 Does not work !
I am quite happy with an all blue setup prior to my last clean install.

It doesn't work without CC that's why i created this thread to check if anyone else know how to turn them off without CC.

I don't mind either, i have blue for keyboard, speakers and red for alien head and touch. which is great. But i don't want them to be turned on all the time which might reduce their life span. So if any function to turn them off without CC would be great.

Maybe just installing the OSD would work?

you could use wattos alienfx lite, it's a java app (requires JRE installed) and u can use it to customize the lights. you can use this instead of CC.

however it hasn't been updated in quite a while.
just make sure to disable any 3d overlay software (fraps/ea origin/riva tuner statistics server) otherwise it may while selecting colours.

you can make a profile all black which essentially turns the lights off.

only problems are, it doesn't work with fn+f11 and the keyboard labels are the wrong way around.

i've been using it for... well ages. still works fine for me.
oh if it does crash (not often but it has happened) and won't load again, just reset the laptop and power drain.

OSD!! yes this app takes lot of resources ? I see everytime when you remove it from startup it gets on it. But i found a way after reading someone's post to disable it from services manager. But Hey! OSD don't cause any high resource right ?

    osd_service.exe 1584kb
    osd_main.exe 1860kb

don't think it uses all that much resources.
can't tell you on average how much cpu usage it takes but really, for the convenience of having an OSD confirmation whenever you use the touch sensitive bar, i think it's worth installing it. (since without it you'll have no clue if it's doing as it should)

however it by itself does not allow you to turn off the alienfx lights.

Alright this is really getting on my nerves now :(

I have installed OSD and tried FN + F11 to turnoff the lights. It doesn't work.

SO ? i have to install CC ? NO WAY please. That's why i asked any alternate method. The 3rd party alienfx application has the option to turnoff lights ?

CC slows down my system. even though i removed from startup, services etc.
No idea what the freak its doing at back. But i am sure you will notice a boot speed when you don't have CC.

But i am forced to install CC now because of the lights. without CC No way to turn them off.

wattos alienfx lite works as i stated before.
i do not have cc running at all

the only difference is that fn+f11 does not work, instead you make a profile called "dark" and make all the lights black, effectively turning them all off.

in order to change profiles you just right click the white alien head logo on the system tray, hover the mouse over default profile and select your profile.
it has separate profile selections for battery and ac adapter

Please tell me, this will turn off the touch button, alien head lights as well ?

EDIT: i just want the keyboard and speakers to be turned off. So that's possible without turning off all lights, right ? Please confirm again.

you can set a custom profile, turn on/off anything you want

atm, i have it so my power button and media bar stay on.
    the rest turn off

here's a pic which may explain what i mean.
please note that on the m15x the keyboard labels are incorrect, substitute right for left and vice versa.
otherwise it works perfectly (disable any overlay programs you may have if you have issues - fraps/msi afterburner/riva tuner)

the boxes in the bottom right of the pic is what pops up when you right click the icon in the system tray.
you select which is your default profile and can quickly change using this quick menu.

oh and need i say, having a blue alien head power button with red eyes is AWESOME!
many thanks to watto's for this app. it allows much greater customization than the default dell app, and allows linux users to customize the lights as well.
oh you may find glitches if your themes are way too complicated with many segments (when you cold boot the lights may be stuffed, however once the program and profile are loaded it fixes itself... this is normal)
