Of these two cards, which video card would be a better value for my Alienware M15x. I can currently get a M6100 for 100 USD (new) versus a 7970m for about 200+USD(new) or 120 USD(used). Is the 7970m worth the additional cost?

I am also curious to what the difference between a Firepro and regular Amd card are (both in gaming and professional aspects).

Can both of these cards handle Doom 2016 or should I consider something else? I am open to other cards, but would really like to purchase a card that is as "plug and play" as possible. I also would like native fan control as well, which to my understanding, both the M6100 and 7970m do have.

The 7970M is about 10-15% faster than the FirePro

EDIT: The M6100 is akin in performance to a 860M (750 Ti) whereas the 7970M is a bit faster. Both can play modern games assuming you are fine with low-medium settings at 1920x1080.

    Buy the 2GB HD 8970M.
I don't know about the M6100 but the HD 7xxx series is dying, don't buy those.

    The 8970M is just a 7970M with a 50MHz overclock...

If anything consider the m290x only because the VRAM is 4GB.

Is it for the m6600? If so the m6100 might be able to push past the 7970m with the vBIOS flash but vanilla the 7970m will be a bit better for sure

You can get a used m6100 for like $90 with free shipping on eBay at this time, I like it enough to have bought a spare should the first one fail on me.

The M6100 is pretty wimpy compared to the 8970M. Have had both and there is a lot more difference than 10-15%! The M6100 is difficult to BIOS mod and even if you do there isn't a lot left in it over stock. No way is it going to push past the 7970M.
