Hi guys,, as the title has anyone on here rolled back their version of windows? I am having issues at the moment and as Tech support appear to have exhausted all hardware checks and monitoring they have now advised me to try rolling back as the M15X is not supported on windows 10.

When I go onto Microsoft website and enter the product key it tells me that product key was used to pre-install on the device and that I should contact the device manufacturer for options. When I called Dell they wanted £20 for a OEM version of 7. There also no guarantee it will even work.

Can I not just download a version with a cracked OEM key from somewhere or is there another way around ?

    Cheers

#1 we don't talk about cracked versions of software on this board.

#2 the Dell OEM ISO of Windows 7 will install without entering a key as it is embedded in the hardware. I think the Dell person you talked to is clueless about how this works.

He never said that there would be a key with the Dell OEM,, just said in order to send me one (on disc) that they required a fee of £20. It was the Microsoft website that wouldn't let me past the key stage.

I have a mate anyway that worked for Microsoft who has told me he can pop round with one and generate a key (legally) if required.

Just going to get a portable HD and transfer everything I want to keep first and then do a full clean install.

You don't need a key. One is already present in the hardware and is available if you use the Dell OEM ISO. You can burn the iso to disk or use Rufus to make a Bootable USB flash drive. Either method will work.

I've wrote a guide for cases like this, but it was against the forum rules and so i got a warning.

That's true, that person obviously has no idea how activation works. It is possibile to activate using the serial on the bottom. It's with the original DVD that you don't need it, but that serial will definitely work.

If you let me know your OS key version (HP, Pro, Ult) i can help you get it activated at no extra cost. :)
PM me, i don't wanna be breaking any more rules xD

More on the topic, yeah i have downgraded to Win 7 from Win 10 on my M18x R2 and M15x, as i've not found it usefull at all, especially support for older games is crap...
I was able to get all drivers working, but it's just not worth the trouble, i'll stick with win 7 for as long as i can....
