I want to upgrade to 16GB and was wondering what specific make and model of RAM you guys are running successfully on your M15X. Thanks in advance.

    Kingston
    HyperX Impact Black Series 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L CL9 SODIMM (Kit of 2) 1.35V (HX316LS9IBK2/16

This is the kit you want. KOI is using it. It'll clock to 1333mhz CL8 automatically

Thanks. I think I'm gonna order a set of these. Have you noticed any stability issues since installing it?

Edit: Is there a heatspreader on this RAM or is it just a sticker?

Just ordered the Kingstons. They have rave reviews everywhere I checked. I looked at more pics and there is no heatspreader, just a sticker. They also downclock to 1333MHz at a CAS latency of 8 @ 1.5V. It's also good that they run at 1600MHz so I could possibly use them on another laptop in the future that supports that speed. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I also have a Hyper-X series SSD which has been running flawlessly for the past two years.

I would like to see someone try 32GB kit :) there is one available. Would be interesting to see if the old system works with 16gb modules!

My Kingston Hyper-x order got cancelled so I found a set of Hynix on e-bay for pretty cheap. I can confirm that they work fine on the M15X. The model number is HMT41GS6MFR8C. They are DDR3-1600 and run at DDR3-1333 speeds @ 9,9,9,24 timing on the M15X. Bios reports 0MB RAM like others but Windows addresses the full 16GB.

    32GB (2x16)?

Try running Aida64 stability/burn test with everything ticked except disk stress and gpu stress, see in task manager if it actually uses >16GB or not.

BTW, i know M17x R2 has issues when using 16GB ram, does M15x properly restart, or does it get stuck on blackscreen?
And i think there were issues with resuming from sleep aswell.

I have 2x M15x, but both are rented at the moment so i can't test.

I've been using the Hynix Ram for a few days now and no issues to date. Seems stable.

I've had 0 errors or BSODs when using 16GB with m17x R2 aswell, but i could never use restart or sleep, always had to shutdown and then start it up by pressing power button or use hibernate.
Doesnt M15x have these 2 issues? That could mean that it's some coding in the M17x R2 that doesn't let it resume from sleep or reboot properly.

I have 32GB RAM available if anybody in the US wants to purchase, asking 110 shipped for Samsung 4x8GB DDR3L-1600 or 55 for 16 (2x8GB). Tested working in the M15x (0GB in the BIOS, full 16GB in Windows)

I have been running 16 GB for more than 1 year - on Win 8, 8.1, and 10. No problems, other than that the bios says there is 0 ram installed. It boots normally, and Windows finds all of the ram available.

Well 16GB, it doesn't see the 16gb completem, in windows it says 11.5MB Hardware Reserved, i know this because when you have 16gb of ram or more the samsung ssd software lets you use 4gb of ram for cache for the ssd. but because of this 11.5mmb it only let you use 1gb of ram for cache.

I use sleep, restart, hibernate all without a problem, linux, windows

This seems strange - I would check your bios settings as well as Win config. On my M15x, though the bios consistently shows 0 Ram installed, Windows found all of it. You are running 64 bit windows, aren't you? 32 bit win can only see 4 GB (sorry, I had to ask). You might also try 4 GB and 8 GB to see what Win sees. If it only thinks 3.5 GB is available with 8GB installed, then it may be running like 32 bit Win. Best, Joe

Windows X86 can actually only use 3GB of ram. X64 can use 4gb +

I stand corrected. While a 32 bit model will allow 4 GB of addresses, X86 can only use ~ 3GB because the other 1GB is reserved. Win 10 versions will support upwards of 128 GB of ram, though the theoretical limit for a 64 bit OS is much higher. Not a practical issue here. While many of us have used 16 GB in M15x without problems, I do not know of anyone successfully using 32 GB. Best, Joe

I have a set of Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600Mhz (clocks @ 1333Mhz with timings of 8/8/8/21 1.35v) and had it over a year with no issues. Bios and Windows sees full 16GB. While it's a little pricey, the speed and performance is worth it. Don't have any issues with sleep and restarts as well. I prefer this set over others because it uses Micron memory chips, who are well known for their reliability and performance. Hope this helps.
