I'd just like to hear from you guys what you paid for extending your warranties. I'm hesitant to extend mine since the M15x was just discontinued, and that I may, just may be able to get a new laptop if the price is "right".

I paid about $250 for a 2 year extension if I remember correctly.

Though I'm not in the US, prices may differ in other regions.

if you're planning on keeping the M15x for awhile then i recommend getting the extended warranty. you'll just have to call a few reps and haggle the price down.

I won't spend anymore $$$. Looking at M17x R3 atm. Hopefully will get good resale dollars on my current setup.

Yeah, thing is, not counting the recent Sony fiasco, we've always been rather hesitant to give out our financial information over the phone. I guess what I'm trying to get @ is just that I don't think I'll really be able to haggle much, so it may not be worth the effort.

If you're not in the U.S. I'd imagine that the price is considerably higher here, since you're probably in Europe, what not with the value of the dollar being what it is ~$400-450 really wouldn't surprise me much.

Did anyone in Malaysia tried it? Called those idiots yesterday and was told to hold in line for the warranty dept and was holding for nearly 1 hr and no one picked up!

I called from Canada, and it was 330$ (this is WITH tax) for 1 year warranty, and for 1 year with FULL coverage (Accidental too) it was 490$. I refused .... no way. I tried getting the price lower and the dude just got angry and spoke indian to me or something. Weird. I don't know what to do, only 40 days left on my warranty, but i am not paying 490$ to renew for ONE year. >.>

Why upgrade a warranty on a system that is one outdated, and two not produced anymore. In my opinion it would be better suited to sell then take that extra cash and get a m17x or m14x depending on individual needs.

In the same boat but not upgrading warranty.

Warranties are way way expensive. Last time I spoke with a Dell rep he tried to sell me a warranty upgrade that cost about 1/4th the price of a new R3.

I just extended my warranty, one year, and here's how and why; the short version-
Went to Dell.com and sent the extend warranty request,
haggled a little when the rep called back, and ended that call with 'Ill think about it', ($350)
went back to dell.com and noticed my expiration date was modified/ shortened,
called back the rep and asked them to correct that, they offered the extension again, ($300)... no thanks,
rep called back and offered $70 'dell.com store card' an extra month on the original warranty (corrected date) and 1 year for $270, I said yes.
Absolutely nothing is wrong with my lappy, lights, keys, screen, wireless, but in the next year Im traveling a lot and expect to need support.
(Nothing worse than frying a motherboard in the second year). Take the third offer :)

This is how I feel right now. Especially since I have a complete care warranty at the moment (around 30 days left). Renewing that, I think, would probably cost upwards of $400.00. I'll look into things once my classes are over in the next month.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Especially hub1100, for detailing your personal scenario as well! Cheers, and back to homework.

$200 is still way too much for a single year of warranty imo. 3yr Applecare for my mbp cost me about $135.

You can't compare it to applecare, it's a next business day service, no need to go to a store. System gets fixed immediately in most cases, but $200 is quite pricey for 1 year...
