Well, that's not EXACTLY what it says on bootup. It's more like, (cue BIOS beep) "The AC power adapter you are using is not the recommended 150W model". Now my laptop is pretty clever and I am a bit of a 'tard with most stuff. BUT it's definately the 150W PSU... Strange, it only started happening these last few weeks. I'm staying in a pretty (by pretty I mean severely) run down house and the electrics are enough to condemn the building in any civilised country so I'm guessing this has something to do with it. It only seems to happen when I run it on an extension cord. I'm guessing it's something to do with the volt-drop? I don't know. So I was just wondering, has anyone experienced this? It also got me wondering, do you folks who are running on a 240W PSU ever get this message? The beefier PSU and a new GPU are first on my list of things to do when I get back to the UK but I really don't think I could live with that immutable *BEEEEEEEEEP* every time I start the machine up. I'm guessing theres no way to disable it either?

LOL. First thing you do with a 240W adapter is disable the warning/alarm in the BIOS. With regard to your existing problem, I suspect the increased resistance of the extension cord reduces the voltage being delivered to the PSU and derates it moderately, but I don't know.

So you can disable it??? Hot stuff, that's a priority. Really sucks when I'm in a public place, surrounded by desperate, poverty stricken folks and I try and quietly pop the laptop out. Suddenly everyones watching me with hungry wolf-eyes... It might as well scream "COME AND GET ME BOYS!!!". And I'm not physically built for fighting off greedy, thieving mobs. Anyhow, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I knew I couldn't be that stupid. Although I was wondering whether the PSU itself could be damged or worn out resulting in a choke point somewhere along the line... I haven't exactly treated it as well as the laptop itself...

yeah just disable the warning message in the bios like the rev said. also a good idea to invest in a surge protector too.

Is it relavtively simple to disable? I don't want to stick my fail-fingers into the BIOS unless it's idiot-proof and so far it seems to me that it's very possible to screw the system up if you start playing with that stuff without proper knowledge.

When you enter the BIOS (F2 at the boot screen), use the right arrow to navigate over to the Power section. The "A/C Adapter Warning" should already be highlighted. Press Enter and choose Disable, then Enter again to finalize. Then Press F10 to save changes and exit the BIOS. That's all there is to it.

Reverend, apparently I rep you too much. Every time I try add rep for a helpful post it says "Stop kissing butt you prat". But many thanks for the BIOS tip, that should fix my issue. As a matter of curiosity I just plugged in at a bar (with wifi, one of the only two in Livingstone) and I just got the same message with no extension cable or anything. There are serious power issues in this part of the world. You rarely get a consistent supply. Constantly fluctuating. Anyway, apparently it isn't the extension cable. We'll see how it plays out when I get back to the UK. Can't wait, flight on Thursday.. *whaaaaaddup!* And I actually managed to bust my passport out of the custody of the oh-so-corrupt immigration dept. here, so I'm headed home come hell or high water. Hooah!
