    Hey guys,

I just updated to Win10 with 7970m installed in M15x. Big issues jumped out that in games or performance test (like runing 3d mark 11), where the core clock got stuck with 425 mhz and memory clock stuck with 600 mhz. Strange enough that if watching video then it performs normal that the clock able to be increased to 850/1200 mhz...

Already tried the latest version of driver available from AMD still doesn't work.
(PS: I flushed modified Vbios to decrease the voltage to keep system stable in previous Win7 system and everything just perform perfectly)

Any one with 7970m has the same issue here?

Sounds like typical GPU throttle. Try removing the centre pin on your psu tip (or get the right angle adaptor and pull the pin on that). Also check that stealth mode isn't engaged as this has the same effect on clocks.

Thanks king, any necessary to order a 210w psu to replace current 150w? Will this solve the 7970m throttle issue in M15x?

Mine would throttle without center pin removal with a 210W adapter. Removing it and toggling stealth mode on and off fixed it.

Thanks King, also a little bit confused with difference between dell 240w psu and 210w? both works for M15x? Also any risk if i just remove the pin of original M15x psu? any chance would make the psu not working any more? Thanks!

Little risk in damaging the PSU by removing the center pin. Be careful though not to damage the inner conductive lining on the PSU plug and make sure there are no metal pieces or shavings inside the barrel when you are done. Removing the pin will stop throttling, but you can no longer charge your battery and you'll get BIOS errors on startup which you can disable. The center pin is used to communicate data between the PSU and laptop. It does not transfer power, only data. The best thing to do is get a right angle adapter, pull the pin on that instead of the PSU plug. Then when you need to charge your battery, just remove the right angle adapter and plug in your PSU's plug.

EDIT: All Dell power adapters with 7.4mm plugs should work on the M15X, but you need to make sure you use a PSU with enough power (Watts) for your laptop. You are better off with a higher power PSU than one with lower power. The 210W worked fine for me with an overclocked 920xm and 7970M.

This is the adapter I have:

Great app since my OSD is not working as well in Win10...Have you upgraded to Win10 and what driver are you using for 7970m?

No Win10 and my 7970m died on me. I'm using a Firepro m6000 now.

Thanks for correcting me Kosti. I guess the pin should be removed.

Then again the 210w doesnt charge battery even with pin so you wont lose anything removing it.

My 210W PA7E adapter charges my battery. I think I mentioned this in another post somewhere. :) I pulled the pin on my right angle adapter and when I need to charge the battery I just plug in the adapter directly.

Perhaps mine is a bit different. Weird thing is that the BIOS reads it as a 230W power supply and not 210.
