So after doing some stupid things, I no longer have my DX11 card so back to the 260m GTX for now. I don't really want to divulge the details of how this happened I'm just gonna move on.

So, what next. I want to try a 470m GTX but they are really costly I mean seriously costly. And I'm in the UK so taxes etc. Still love to be a guinea pig though. Perhaps a reseller wouldn't mind posting me one I'll test it out and if it works I'll pay for it, if not I'll send it back. Perhaps gonna try the 6970m. Maybe it is just time to throw in the towel and get me a M17x R3.

Sorry to hear this... you're sure it's completely dead?

In case you need nvidia you could get another 460m... the 470m was more expensive than the 6970m last time I checked.
Getting an M17x R3 is an option as well, but since you have a 920you can get about the same performance with putting a 6970m in your system, while spending less.

I know but I may want 3D for some braggin' rights. Yeah the 460m is completely dead. I get flashing Scroll and Num lock lights which means fried video card. Perhaps looking at one from HIDevolution.

Just asking, I was wondering if anyone is interested in my 920XM? I may sell it separate when I get rid of my M15x.

Rev you are amazingly kind. You should change your name to The Reverend :p Anyways If I get some money I may consider trying the 470m again but I may just throw in the towel. The M15x has served me well. If only my brother weren't so stubborn about used PC's. He only settles for brand new even if it is slower!
Oh well, the 460m has served me well and deserves it's spot at the top of the benchmark list :D

Oh yeah, Laxxi is right! Oven time!!! :D It's maybe worth a try... (Well, I dunno what you did to your poor card though... so in case you accidenatly dropped it in a blender it wont help either, lol) But maybe...

No I think I accidentally shorted it whilst doing a repaste. So what does baking the card recover it from?

Baking mostly softens and/or redistributes the solder and works with old cards where the solder gets cracked or chipped in some way that interferes with the circuitry. The wonder is that it sometimes works to give the card a few more months of life. Afraid it can't do much for a short circuit.

Ok, in this case it won't help... baking can help if some solder joints are bad... but thats almost impossible, I never heard of this issue with the recent nvidia cards, and definitely not by a 460m.

Shorting while repasting? Well, you don't need to tell, but I must admit that I'm curious.

Edit: I'm too slow with when writing from my phone.

Well the thing is I was resitting the card and doing a general clean up with the interiors that I do every 2 weeks or so and I do this with the plug in but switched off so it is still grounded. Someone came along and switched it on thinking it was their socket and in that 5 seconds I was just placing my GPU back in. I heard a small spark, it no longer boots. Shame.

Its so easy to take the card out. I would attempt to bake it atleast.

    Hi widezu,

I'm looking for a 920xm, how much are you asking for?

    I'm living in Ireland.

    Thanks
