Hello everybody, recently (within the last couple of days) my CPU has been heating up to temperatures of around 70 degrees Celsius just browsing the web and listening to music.

While my CPU is at such high temperatures the fan is not on barely at all. Now usually if the temperature goes above 60 degrees celsius the fan kicks in almost full blast.

Anyone know why this would be happening? I can up the fan speed in hwinfo32 manually but the second i go back to system auto it just heats up and keeps the fan speed down really low.

Did you run the Alienware Diagnostics test and is your BIOS updated? There's a slight possibility that the thermal paste might've worn off..I'm no expert, but why don't you have a look inside?

The weather could also be a contributing factor. If that's the case, use a laptop cooler as it might help bring it down a couple of degrees, and I'm assuming you're placing your laptop on a flat surface while doing so.

Nowadays even my rig's temps go off the roof. I usually play with the air conditioning on all day, and the temps hit a max 70 C. If I play with the air conditioning turned off, I get temperatures hitting more than 80 C.

I haven't, how do i run the alienware diagnostics test? My BIOS is the A09 version. I can't open up and replace the thermal paste because i don't have any right now.

The temperatures aren't exactly my problem, its the fact that my fans aren't coming on when they need to.

There are 2 ways to run Alienware diagnostics test:
    - Use alienware resources DVD to boot up and choose run diagnostics test.
    - Start up your laptop and press F8 when you see a white alien head. After that, choose Run diagnostics...

maybe its an software issue, could be a program which runs in background and
getting the cpu working on full power.

Have you looked in the Task Manager in "Performance" on "CPU Usage"?

I watched CPU usage for a while and it ranged between 5-20% usage. I know the fans working because i can set it to full blast with hwinfo32.

It is just when i let the system set the fan speed itself it lets the CPU temp get up to 65+ degrees celcius and barely turns the fan on.
