    Hi all,

    Well I have posted my M15x issue already. It was burned coz I tucked it in the sleeve after playing crysis for 2 hrs. I wasn't sure if it was MOBO until a few days back the repairer confirmed it and said that it was beyond repair. Right now none of the repairers have the M15x mobo available but if I manage to find one;

    ** Can I replace it myself ?? **

    What are the precautions that I should take?

    Please be detailed and also link me to any guides if possible!

    Regards
    -Saadleo

    Yes, you can. You have to completely tear down the system, I've done it once, not because I had to replace the mobo, only for for looking up some chips on the board... and for fun :D

    You'll need an ESD mat and wristband, the service manual, a bit common sense and a lot of care. Ah, and a screwdriver, thermal paste and enough time will come in handy as well.

    Get the service manual here: Alienware: Online Documentation

    Take care with the cables, if you have to use force to unplug them, you're doing something wrong. Always check the manual or take a close look at the connector before removing cables.

    I can't remember whether it's necessary to remove the LCD assembly... but even if, it's easy enough.

    A lot of people don't bother about ESD protection, and ahances that you kill anything when not using ESD protection are small, but you will never see me recommending or telling anyone to do so.

    the display doesn't have to be taken off but its recommended since you don't want to scratch it by accident. for the display just disconnect the wires under the keyboard and unscrew the mount from the main body, that way the lid and display can be kept as a whole.

    to OP, widezu put up a price check for his M15x part out. You could pm him abd see how much he would want for it, if he is still parting it out. I know he listed the mobo in the part out. Gluck.
