    Ahhh way over my head.

In that case i don't think it's "possible" for myself. I don't even know what powerplay and overdrive means haha (computer illiterate as i've stated before)

Thanks for the reply though, appreciate the help.

If your not willing to try it out, and play around with it a bit then you're best selling the card off. If you are looking for an upgrade on your gpu there are quite a few options for you. What card do you have currently?

I would be willing to play around with it but i have no idea where to even start. Can't even get anything on the screen, it's just blank.

I did have a 260m but it fried playing Oblivion believe it or not, i now have the 240m and i know people give it a bad name but in all honesty it plays most my games on high flawlessly.

But i want a card that's going to play Skyrim with decent settings so any advice would be appreciated, i'll have about $400 when my ebay case is resolved. Would have been more like $600 had i not got this clevo card -___-

It's nice to have two cards anyway because you never know what's around the corner.

Are you able to get into the BIOS by tapping F2 at the boot screen (big Alien head)? If so, just report. Don't do or change anything, exit without saving changes.

2 simple upgrades would be the amd 5850m (a bit hard to find) or the gtx 460m. Both are officially supported. The 2 unofficial cards that can be put in the M15x are the 6970m and 6990m. Both of those are the 2 higher end gpus that'll give you a big difference in gaming.

Go with the 460m; the Clevo 5870m's don't have working powerplay, so they're always at 3D clocks.

Could be the card is busted, but best if someone more knowledgeable sheds some light on this issue.

If you do want to offload that card, someone in the price check/wtb forum was looking for gfx cards that aren't working.

Well, that's not good. Most likely, the card is dead. However, it is possible that the card is functional, but has been flashed with a vbios that is not compatible with the M15x. The best approach to that issue is to find someone with a M17x (presumably a M17x-R2) and see whether it will boot with your card; if it does, you could then flash the card in the M17x with a Clevo 5870M stock vbios, which will work fine in the M15x. The other possibility, though slim, is to attempt to boot the M15x from a USB stick into a DOS session and then use Atiflash to try to communicate with and reflash the 5870M with the Clevo vbios. It is unlikely that the M15x will boot into DOS in its current state, but if all else fails, it's worth a shot. Sorry for your troubles. Where did you get this 5870M?

I got the card from ebay, the guy selling it had 100% feedback and lots of it, he has a few he is selling all the same as mine as far as i can tell. That all work with the M17x apparently.

And sadly i don't know anyone with an M17x and that other thing you suggested it'll end up taking weeks trying to figure out haha i'd be able to earn the money at work to get a new one in that time because i'm poo.

Also, thanks for your input Khetik i may just have to do that, it's no use to me now so i'm sure i'd sell it at a great price.

Thanks Revelator and thanks everyone for your help.

@Pollen, don't give up yet. Where are you located? There are a lot of nice people in the M17 forum, and we might be able to find one that can diagnose your card and reflash it if feasible.

Thanks for the link to the market place i was struggling to find that haha.

Revelator the thought did cross my mind, everyone on this site seems so genuine and nice for the most part. I wouldn't know where to search or who to ask though.

I'm located in the West Midlands of England. I'd be happy to paypal someone some cash for their time and effort too.

I'm afraid all of my M17x-R2guys are US based, and it's not worth international shipping rates for this job. I'll keep my eyes open and ask around a little for UK based users that might be drafted. You could open a thread in the M17 forum explaining the problem and seeking help. At the very least you get exposure to a large number of users with extensive experience with the Clevo 5870M in the M17x-R2 that could provide better guidance.
