Sorry, I searched for the answer to this for a good half hour online but couldn't find it. Maybe my searching ability is lacking today.

But I keep reading about people who own an M15X with a 460M. I also read about how the 460M appeared as an option for the Singapore and Japan websites several months ago. But, I just checked them as well as the US website, and there is no 460M available. Is it on and off, or something? Will I be able to order an M15X with a 460M soon? Or, is it there now, and I'm just not seeing it?

It seems that the 460M is out of stock considering that it's still available elsewhere
A call to Alienware (or ordering over the phone) would likely solve your issue

All right, I'll try calling them tomorrow. I was actually in chat with a Dell representative, but she didn't really know anything.

Edit: Now I just noticed that the description for the M15X, even on the US website, includes "Available with your choice of advanced NVIDIA and ATI Graphics including the NVIDIA 460M GTX GPU." So, yeah, they must just be out of stock. Now I feel kind of silly. Would be nice if they mentioned that while you are actually configuring the system, though.

Haha It would, but hey, it's Dell!
Calling may still get you somewhere though, it won't hurt to try!

I called them a long time ago before purchasing a Clevo 460M from a member here. The GTX 460M and 260M are both around $415 USD. The Dell Mobility 5850 is $279.95, which is interesting since it reportedly gives the best gaming performance. nVidia does have CUDA, but I don't think that's such a reason for bumping up the price so much.

Yeah, the Dell-Chat representatives aren't going be able to find the part numbers, it took the person I was talking to (on the phone) at least 15-20 minutes to find the part numbers, though he did find them.

Okay, I just spoke with a sales guy over the phone. Don't really want to do that again or purchase the system that way for the same reasons I don't like talking to or dealing with any salesperson. But his words were that the 460M is available on the new M17X revision, and the M15X is probably getting ready to include the 460M which is why it's listed as being available in the description... Not saying he was lying to me, but I don't really buy that as an explanation. I'm more content assuming that it's simply out of stock.

In any case, it's time to play the waiting game. Waiting for the 460M to reappear or for AW to make announcements about the M11x R3, M14x, or M18x. Yes, indeed. There is waiting to be done. I do not enjoy this game. But, it must be played. :[

yeah, that kind of waiting is annoying... its hard to know when something new will be available or when certain parts will be in stock...

I have high hopes for a new M18x system, though... that might be an interesting desktop replacement....
