Hi, I've spent the past month figuring out what Gaming Laptop I'd buy...
And Warranty-based, I'd go with the Alienware, solely because I have on-site support in Honduras... Only 1 year, but I would'nt have to hassle with sending it to the USA and stuff...

    My question is:

With a $1700 budget, whats the best configuration I can get? gaming-wise?

You won't need more than 4GB RAM, and I would focus on the GPU get the highest one you can afford. Also read up on the 260 vs 5750. I'm not sure which one is better. CPU you'd be fine with a 620 or 720

I think you mean the 5850 (or the 5730), which was confirmed by Dell to be GDDR5 and if true, would definitely be better choice.

4 gig of RAM is indeed more than enough. Go with the 720 for the simple reason that it's the cheapest one available in Honduras and it's a fantastic CPU, (The 620 is not available for South and Central America, I don't know why).

Ok, I would be ordering from the USA site :)
did that with my m1530, and my warranty was shared with USA and Latin America, LA DELL took care of my on-site repairs, etc..
whereas USA DELL took care of my replacement...

would the i5 do fine? or is it really necessary to go i7?, also is the fullhd worth it?

That's a lot better, of course as prices are way higher in Honduras!
The i5 would suffice but if your budget is $1700 I would go a bit more future proof.
Full hd depends on taste, I personally think. It gives you slightly lower frame rates but looks more beautiful. For my personal taste it makes text too small to comfortably work with several windows open next to each other. Besides, the 900p is a fantastic screen as well.

BTW - Why can you only get a one year warranty? I'm quite sure you could get a 3-year advanced warranty in Honduras!
