Hi guys, so i'm a total noob at this and looking to create a working driver for G870m for my M15x on Windows 10.

So far I've taken the latest Nvidia driver (353.62) and made the following modifications:
    - Changed "05AE" to "O2A2" in the ndmi.inf file
    - Added my gpu code to the strings section in nv_dispi.inf file
    NVIDIA_DEV.1199 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M"
    - Added the gpu id code to the OS support section in nv_dispi.inf file
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1199% = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1199

I then run setup.exe and get through the compatibility check but then once the driver starts to install, it then fails.

I feel like I'm missing something fairly obvious. Any advice?

    UPDATE:
Tried grabbing the latest drivers from Laptop2Go and dropped in the modified ini file but still failing mid-install

Where's the "how-to" to modify the .ini file?

I'm considering upgrading from 7970m to 970/980m with windows 10.

I used the following 353.75 drivers from laptopvideo2go with the modified ini file they provide. All you need to do is go into display.driver, find nvgb.ini and replace the contents of that file with this. Remember you also have to disable driver signature enforcement in Windows 10 (guide).

This has got the vCard working for me (with Audio disabled) but I'm now struggling with getting the audio card to play nice and not green screen my machine. I was using the longer method by Rob 41488 in this thread but it's not working for me (see my post at the bottom of the screen).

Hope that first bit works for you and any help on the audio card conflict would be appreciated. I'll keep plugging away at it.

Something you don't immediately notice being on here. Most of us are also members on Tech Inferno where you'll find drivers + premodded inf's from J95.
But if laptopvideo2go works for you then great.

Cool I'll come over and check them out. Do you think my problem could be in a video driver that's not been optimally modded for an Alienware hence the sound card clash and resulting green screen? Will check it out when I'm home.

I've got a workaround in the works through using a USB external sound card, borrowing one from work tomorrow.

No clue sorry. Never had one of the cards that suffers from those issues. Hopefully you can find a fix.

Am I being stupid? But I can't seem to post, start a thread or do anything on techinferno. It talks about having a 5 post minimum before being able to do anything... including search, post, download files. It also talks about a premium membership but then doesn't seem to offer anything. Thoroughly confused.

Thanks for the heads up. I just pulled the trigger for a 970m to replace the 7970m, so... I want to stay Win 10 if I can. I actually like this version over the 7 *gasp*

You have to make 5 good posts to existing threads (not all subforums are open to those) before you're allowed to be fully active. Its annoying, I know, but worth it eventually. Just browse a bit and give some good advise.

Fair enough. Didn't realise that you weren't allowed into some of the sub-forums. This is going to be an interesting challenge. I appreciate what they're doing but disabling the search function doesn't seem to make a lot of sense IMHO as it makes researching fixes without asking annoying questions rather difficult...
