    Hello all,

I just signed up on these forums but have been browsing them for a while. First I'd like to say a big thanks to all the regulars as info on here (especially regarding upgrading the ATI 5850 drivers) has been really helpful for me!

I've had my m15x for a couple of weeks now and everything has been great with it. Awesome performance in games etc. Until now I have downloaded all my games from steam. Today I put a game DVD (WoW) in the drive and its making a really loud buzzing sound while installing.

It's much more than I have heard from any other laptop and I can't imagine being able to watch a dvd on the laptop with this noise. This can't be normal right? Or is the drive just that loud?

    Thanks!

It shouldn't be that loud, I hope you're not putting too much weight on the lower right corner of the laptop though, try lightly tapping that corner a few times. I used to have this problem, 2-3 thumps fixed it :D (but mine wasn't super load still was quite annoying, now it's quiet as air.)

My Macbook CD drive sounds like a jet engine taking off, but thats because it has a damaged CD drive.... It doesnt read blank discs and automatically ejects them. I can only imagine that since yours doesnt abort drive operations and is simply loud (faster it spins the louder it gets).

In short, your drive is fine. If it craps out you'll know it, believe me.
