    I remember I bought my m15x with Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Well I rarely use my DVD-RW, I didn't use it for 3-4 months as I remember. Now when I need it, it can't even read any CD or DVD.
I don't know if this is some kind of virus because my Avira Free AntiVir and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can't find any. My SlimDrivers can't also find any new driver update available.
    So what now?

tbh mine was only a few weeks old when mine first broke !

Instead of sending it away back to dell for there monkeys to bodge something up . I spent a few hours dissmantling the laptop and replacing it with a HDD caddy .

All you need then is to buy an external DVDRW .. Must admit the only time i use a DVDRW now is OS installs

Im having the same problem since the start. Please check your dvd drive model at device manager and the driver manufacturer date and post it.

    Mine is DVD+-RW DC-8A2SH
Its driver dates back to 2006. And dell website have different drivers than the one installed in my machine. Im still awaiting answer on what should i do.

Mine did the exact same thing. I just had it replaced a month or so ago. I used it a couple times and went to use it again a couple months later and it would not read any disks.

Call Dell and have them replace it.

    mine is DVD+-RW AD-7640S
so what you trying to tell are we can't do anything right now, am I right?

well this is my major problem over here. I bought my M15x in US and carried back to my homeland with the help of my sister. I do realize there are official Dell/Alienware store in my homeland but I prefer buying in US since I can freely configure my own system. now that this ridiculous problem appeared I am completely clueless

external DVD-RW on a powerful gaming notebook? that would be my last choice

I've noticed some trouble with it recognizing CD's before. I've only really used my drive to install games (DVD's I'm pretty sure), which works fine, but I noticed it had trouble with a CD I put in it, so I figured it was just the CD. Then I tried a CD of some music that my brother had burned for me, and that one didn't work either. I thought it might be the CD, but I tried it in my car and the music plays just fine. Not sure what the problem is

How comes ? No Decent games run anything from the CD anymore .. They put near enough all the files to the HDD.

It does make more sense having another HDD in there .. especially if you have a small 120gb SSD like me ;)

I just upgrade to a BD-ROM on mine, but I never had problems with the DVD-RW. In retrospect I should have done the same as 2097. I also have a 120GB SSD and I'm amazed how quickly space gets eaten up.

To the OP, check Dell's site for a firmware update on your drive.

Mine works well until you load a movie dvd in it. It's just impossible being able to watch it, each 5 minutes the dvd-rw starts making weird noises like if it had a hard time reading the dvd, so the movie lags a lot... it's so annoying.

My dvd drive could not play any dvd movies. And some data cds either. So i called Dell and they came and swapped my drive with a new lite-on slot drive.

    Works flawlessly now.

I know it's been a long time since the last time I used DVD-RW. In fact, that it has been broken since a long time ago and this isn't actually my first post to DVD-RW problem ( first post and unfixed problem).

I'm using Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-7640S if it does mean something.. Windows could not find a driver problem nor driver update.

If you guys could help, that would be wonderful because I need to install this Diablo 3 in my M15x. Thanks!

based on this conversation, I'm starting to think that the latest BIOS A09 cause this problem. Any thought?
