    Hey guys,

So after a whole bunch of failed repairs I got quite pissed and requested for a full system replacement, not allowing them to come replace my screen. My display had been artifacting for quite some time, which was obviously the work of a faulty GPU, and multiple replacements didnt solve the issue.

They offered to replace my screen, but I stopped them there and asked them to provide a full system replacement.

Dell offered me a replacement M15x. The GPU replaced was a 5730, which I immediately refused. They sent me an updated quote with a 5850, but I requested for an NVIDIA gpu, which they said wasn't available.

I have my reasons for requesting for NVIDIA. My scope of work involves large amounts of Video processing as well as 3D processing, something which CUDA helps me out with. Which is why I will not accept a 5850, even though it seems mostly better than the 460M.

Dell is offering me a system which is about to be phased out. I think this is them playing dirty tricks on their part.

Should I request that they replace me a M17xR3, or stick to the M15x? And if I should request for an M17xR3, any tips on doing so?

Replace it with an R3. Your argument should be that it is a single GPU machine with similar performance to the M15x and similar size. Or you can accept the one with the 5850 and replace it yourself with a 460m.

Definitely a M17xR3 since it has so much more raw power. But I doubt that they will just replace it like that, they would probally ask for some extra payment.

m17x just by the fact they are doing away with the m15x. That would be my argument.

Hey guys, just as an update, Dell has finally gotten back to me. They agreed to replace an M17x for me FOC, as I finally convinced the backend people that the M15x was facing a pullout.

I have also chosen to upgrade the screen to a 3D one, so I suppose all is perfect now!

    Thanks guys! =)

You have chosen? Did you have pay anything out of pocket for the 3D screen?

Yep I have chosen to fork out the extra cash for the 3D screen. Will help me with my 3D video production a lot. =)

Nice! I still got like 400 days left on my warranty, not to jinx myself but if something happens in the future I hope I get bumped up too.

    That's awesome to get a M17xR3 as a replacement. ;)

Did they ask for extra payment..??? Personally, I'd go for a 6970 but it's a Personal Computer right? :D

I paid only for the screen upgrade, not the unit upgrade. Had to convince backend the 15x was being phased out though.

Tough one but now I get the upgrade. Backend says they'll get sales to contact me regarding payment for the screen but I haven't heard anything for 2 days. This is stalling the build for my new 17x. Dayum.

If you don't mind, can you tell me exactly how much you payed for the screen upgrade?

Any by the way, how exactly did you convince them? Like, outdated hardware and stuff...

    Hey Guys,

    Here are the specs:

    Soft Touch-Stealth Black
    Intel® Core? i7-2720QM Processor (2.2GHz, 1600 MHz DDR3, 6M cache)
    17.3" (43.94cm) Truelife Full HD (1920x1080) 3D LCD Panel with 3D Glasses
    3.2 MP Integrated WebCam
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM(2x4GB) [I have another 2x4gb lying spare so that'll be 16gb in total]
    750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
8X DVD + /-RW Drive with DVD + R double layer write capability
    1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
    9-cell Primary Battery
    Intel® WiFi Link 6300 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Internal mini-card

I paid SGD 510.39 for the 3D screen.

I just told them that the M15x was being phased out, which backend flatly denied. I hussled them a bit and they said they "understood from sales that they would be removing M15x soon."

Nope, I did not pay a single cent for the M17x replacement.

What I paid for was a screen upgrade on the M17x.

Thats some upgrade you just got there :)
Did you have to buy new warranty, or was your old one just transfered?

Now you just need to break this one and convince them to give you a m18x :D

Nah I don't have the intention to get the M18x.

My old warranty was transferred. I still have 2 years.

if that's the case, I would push for a new system. I was able to get mine replaced after my motherboard and 5850 were swapped out.
