I was just checking the Dell Outlet... and options there seem pretty good to be true...
Whats the deal with those? Are they used laptops? Are they good quality?? ... Has someone bought from the Dell Outlet and gotten good results??

Well the refurbs are certified by dell before they are sent off. So its pretty safe to get them. Its a rare chance to find a defect in them.

I have bought two m15x from the outlet and had good experiences with both. Refurbished was fine with a few scratches on the bottom panel. Scratch and Dent one I have now is like new with a penny size scratch on the lid. Both performed perfect.

I just took the plunge myself, being frustrated at trying to find a reasonable step up from my current laptop without spending too much.

I ended up spending a while this past Friday evening refreshing the outlet page for m15x models until I found a combination I liked. This is what I bought in the end:

    M15x - certified refurb
    i7-820
    6gb dual channel 1333
    900p screen
    gtx 260m
    blu-ray drive
    320gb hard drive
    9 cell battery

    price: $1119

I should see it show up sometime later this week, possibly early next week. I don't know exactly what to expect but I've heard pretty decent things about the certified refurbs from the Dell Outlet.

My old/current laptop is an Asus G50vt with a 768 display, x9100 cpu I slapped in it, 4gb memory, and 512mb 9800m gs. So to me it's a pretty affordable path into the alienware world. Everything is at least a step up from what I had.

I recently bought my M15X from the Dell Outlet (Came on Friday) and it was a Certified Refurb. and it was excellent. Graphics drivers were already updated but the bios was still A08 which I didn't mind and still have A08. Honestly, if it wasn't for the sticker on the bottom of this laptop that said "REFURBISHED" I would have thought it was brand new. Nobody is perfect however and defects do occur from the Dell Outlet but from browsing these forums, most people would recommend purchasing a refurbished.

You made a good purchase, 9-cell comes in handy.

My "Certified Refurbished" had several small scratches on the lid as well as a nice paint chip on the lower left hand corner of the base. It should have been listed as "scratch-and-dent" instead. It's really the luck of the draw with these. I purchased a scratch and dent XPS back in the days and it looked brand new, no noticeable scratches. Go figure.

I just ordered mine yesterday and it should be coming Thursday. Reading this thread just reassured me that I should have no worries about buying a Referb from Dell. It was a lot cheaper than buying a brand new M15x. Now I just need to save up for a better processor :-D

    Quick update...

My M15x refurb arrived first thing this morning. That's with me ordering it late Friday night and only using the free 3-5 day standard shipping. So I give a big thumbs up for quick shipping. I didn't even realize that it was coming with Win7 Pro instead of the regular Home Premium, so that was a nice bonus.

Externally it looks to be in near perfect condition. I turned it on and the screen looks great. That's about all I'll be able to check until I get back home from work.

Mine was a refurb and it came looking brand new. Only issue was the optical drive failed about 6 months down the road but was an easy fix.

I'm pretty angry at the fact that I bought my M15x on Sunday, it's coming in today but when I checked the outlet store there was one for 129$ more with an i7-740 and ati 5850 :'(. Oh well I'm only going to upgrade components anyway so I'm not too disappointed.

Just received my M15x and god do I love this machine. I have never had a laptop that I adored this much. Shipping was also fantastic got here in 4 days after ordering. I am a bit concerned that FedEx did not require a signature but otherwise no issues. Laptop feels like new as well as looks like new. It has no dings or scratches anywhere. Only other thing that bothers me is the name plate on the bottom is from someone else and that Alienware did not replace it with a generic one. Minor gripes I know but overall I am ecstatic!

Did you get a restore disc with your system? I only got a disc labeled as "Windows 64-bit" and was wondering if I should have gotten a restore disc? And Fedex did not acquire a signature from me as well but was delivered at my door step. Luckily I was home that day. And my nameplate was removed overall with no standard one but honestly, I haven't flipped or looked at the bottom plate since I got this beauty.

I got a copy of windows 7 64bit but that's it, there is no drivers disc but that disc is a restore disc.

Same, I only got the windows 7 64-bit but I was told that the windows 7 64-bit does not restore your computer to the way it was when it was shipped out of the factory, is that true?

Technically it doesn't, it is quite literally your copy of Windows 7 64Bit. I already used it since I upgraded my HDD. You have to manually download the drivers after the fresh install.

But lets say your computer becomes corrupt, the disc should boot you into a fresh copy of windows 7 and you just have to install all the drivers?
