    Hi,
So, i'll be upgrading my 260M soon to probably a 460M through Dell for a decent price :) . My question is probably a bit  but anyway....when the dell tech guy comes and fits me my new GPU do i get to keep my ol'260M to sell on and get a bit of money back?

    Thanks in advance

    James

Yes, if you upgrade you are allowed to keep the old parts. In case of a replacement because of a defective card you can't keep it.

thats cool then :) i did think as much, just wanted to be sure.
(SO with the cash from selling the 260M i guess i could put it towards a 920XM :D)

    Thanks.

Wait, let me get this straight... you purchased a 460 from Dell Parts and a tech was scheduled to come out and install it (no charge for the tech)?

no no not yet. I have a problem with my optical drive and when i emailed dell about it i enquired about a GPU upgrade i got quoyed 215 for the 460M and 175 for 5850. he said if i upgrade the tech will come and fit both disc drive and gpu in one visit. Just waiting on payday to sort out a date for him to come.

I too would like to know the answer to that question. I just bought a new 5850 today and was told that tech support could guide me through the process but an on-site tech would not replace the card. This is fine cause, I can do it myself.

I am guessing those prices are in GBP and not U.S dollars. I was like "WHAT???" until I saw your location. :D :D

lmao :) Yeh UK prices. Still good though.
I was planning on getting the 460M from the eurocom ebay seller for around 240ish with shipping. But i get to keep warranty this way and it's cheaper :D

You're making a good choice. I'm loving my 460. Best of luck.

Ahh... I guess I had bad luck with my support guy on the phone... he told me that the service guy needs to come separately if I want an upgrade and that I have to pay the service guy for the upgrade (even if they had to come anyway because of my defective 260m...)

    Thanks man.
I do like the 460, you rekon i'll see a big difference gaming than with my 260? Just curious. Im not expecting miracles but an overall smoother gaming experience is what im after. Plus temps are meant to be COOL.

Yes, you'll definitely see a difference. The vRAM is GDDR5 which already gives you a nice boost and the card is DX11 capable. A friend of mine has a 460m in his Asus and the performance compared to the 260m is absolutely great. With the latest drivers they really improved the performance in some games and in addition to this you should be able to get a nice extra boost with a good OC.

Yeah I got one of them and moved from a 260m. Increase is pretty decent. Overclocked it pretty high (check sig) and have max 70C in a reasonably cool environment. Up to 76C when the room is a bit warmer.

Cheers fellas. Thats some nice info there.
A decent upgrade PLUS it can overclock really well :D and 70-76 gaming temps for that overclock seems amazing  With all these top games coming out this year, it's going to be fun :) . Roll on payday....
