    Hey guys,

Got this m15x from a friend with a 720qm (upgraded) and the 6970m clevo card. I was using 12.10 drivers for a while, was kind of noticing slow fps in games (farcry 3, forge, torchlight 2)

I tried uninstalling, driver sweep in safe mode, cc cleaning registry, then I installed the m17x 6970m drivers and then the 12.11 beta drivers...

Still low fps in farcry 3, torchlight 2 has fps drops during fights... What drivers have been tried and true? also, when I wiped everything clean and installed just the dell drivers and went to catalyst it still showed 12.10? really weird...

I have done the monitoring using HWinfo as well, temps seem to be fine as well...

Looking for some solid info on this subject!!

After installing the 12.11 Beta11 drivers, install the CAP2 application profile. That should help you, especially in far cry 3.

Yeah I did, still noticing 30-40 fps on med/high settings with AA on (maybe 1-2 fps gain with AA off)

with a 740qm, 8gb 1600 mhz corsair, a 6970m, and an ssd,, I should be getting way higher fps.... Should I not be installing the dell drivers first? or just install the 12.11 and cap2

Im not sure why im not seeing better results from this computer.... its really frustrating.

That sounds about right for a 6970m. Far Cry 3 drivers aren't too optimized. What resolution do you play on?

At that resolution with medium/high settings you should be getting around 40fps. 35-40fps average. Which you said you are.

What's your gpu usage in game?

Around 98-100%... the thing thats weird is I find my cpu usage is low.. like 50%.. some games its 25%

Whats more concerning than farcry, is the fps drop in torchlight 2... 60fps solid no mater what setting i put it on (down setting) but when a group of monsters attack and particles start flying around it slows down to a low of 20 fps... The game is completely cartoonish...

If your gpu usage in all of your games are that high then you are gpu limited meaning your gpu is using all of it's power and in order to get more frames/performance you'd need a better gpu.

As for the fps drops, what's the usage when that exact moment happens. Check both cpu/gpu when that happens.

CPU usage is low because the games aren't demanding as much from the cpu. CPU intensive/optimized games will use every core/thread on the cpu and usage will be higher.

I looked up some info on torchlight 2.. and it seems its optimized for single cpus?? in this day and age... seems a bit weird.. people with 3000 series i7 having fps drops... Kind of strange.. I wish there was a way to benchmark this laptop to find out if its running correctly..

You can run 3DMark Vantage or 3DMark11.
