    Hey all,

Well after 3 months of ownership, i got the blue screen of death. I've done a factory reset with the disc and now i can use my beloved M15 again.

A couple of little details that id be grateful for some help on.

    1. I haven't got Microsoft security essentials anymore, and was wondering if I can get that back?

    2. I downloaded the wallpapers off the dell site, however, how do I change the background picture on the initial log on screen. Just to clarify, im not asking to change the profile pic but the wallpaper (i want to out the original alienware one back and get rid of the horrible sky blue windows one lol)

I would be eternally grateful for any help on these matters. Thanks. :)

Check out BatBoy's thread: HOW TO: Restore the Alienware 'Look and Feel' after a clean install of Windows 7. I quoted the relevant parts here. Please go to the thread to download the Windows Login/Logoff Screen. Hope this helps. :D

Thanks for the guide alvinkhorfire, but im still having a small drama with the effect taking place. Did everything as instructed, but still no change??

There was 1 file in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background

and it was called (default) REG_SZ. i double clicked it, there was no 0 in it, i typed 1 in, closed it, tested it but still no joy. :(

Well, you should modify the value of DWORD, but not REG_SZ.

To save you the hassle, download my attachment. Charge its extension from .txt to .reg. Double click on it and click yes when prompted by User Account Control. It should work.

To test it, press Ctrl + Alt + Del altogether. You should see the Alienware login screen. :D

No worries. We all here will try to assist you whenever possible.

Just download the registry from inap file and double click the reg file. You do not have to modify the registry yourself. The reg file will do all of the work for your. Do not worry. The reg file is safe to be used.

Just use tweaks logon. It compresses your picture as well as everything that needs to be done to the registry. Plus a preview option as well.

Cheers Rev. New issue now lol. tried to change it, it recognised the file (logon pic), automatically put it in a backup folder, then an error msg came up saying access to the path is denied? grrr!

Dont suppose anyone can help with this one lol. eternally grateful once more. :)

Be sure the picture you wish to use is not open in some other application and then right click on TweaksLogon.exe and select Run as Administrator. If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.
