    Hi,

I had a DVDr/w drive and it stopped reading DVDs. I replaced it with a BluRay CA10N which worked fine at first but now it's doing the same thing. It's like the disc isn't even in the drive. It just spins up and then stops. Soooo, since it's the same issue on 2 different drives I'm guessing that it's Windows that messing up, does anyone have any ideas? It won't even read the Alienware DVD. I've updated the drivers and checked the BIOS to see if it's enabled.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Hey,

Yeah, it won't read BluRays, DVDs or CDs. It's a CA10N. It was working fine. Same happened with my previous DVDrw that was in it. All I can think is that it's a problem within windows. As with the previous one, this one crapped out when I rang AVG tune up registry cleaner. Might need a windows reinstall.

you check the connection between the Optical dive and the mobo? I had this issue at one point with my old acer and it turned out it was getting power but couldn't read because the connection was loose ;)

Have you tried the upper/lower filters fix? Microsoft also has an exe that can remove the corrupt registry keys.

Thanks for all the info people. I done the Upper/lower limit fix but didn't work. I'm currently running HW diags on my lappie so I'll see how that pans out. I'll check the cable when I get home tonight. If I need a new cable, any idea where I'd get one? I only ever changed the drive not the cable so chances are with same issue on both drives it probably is the cable :D

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Hi,

The Diagnostics have finished and this is the results

    Cables
    All Passed

    CA10N - BD-rom/DVDrw
    Error 0F00:2875.
    Drive Spindle Self Test Failed
    All other tests passed

I can't find any docs on the dell support site to tell the fix for the error codes, and googling it brings up nothing.

    Any ideas?

I had a problem with the CA10N as well. The best way to fix the problem is buy a refurbished CA10N or upgrade to a BLUray burner while your replacing it. Because i have replaced my BLUray 2 times and the screws are starting to become unthreaded.

That sounds like dirty lens. Either open it up and clean it with a cotton bud and alcohol or buy a optical drive cleaning kit.
