Hi, I recently found out with the help of this forum, the backlight on my Alienware went kaput. I have a limited budget at the moment to replace the screen.

First question, does this seem like it's a good deal for the screen that's posted on this forum? Is it legit?
1080p RGB LCD screen B156HW01 V.7 WUXGA FHD laptop display EXACTfit V.4 V.6 NEW | eBay

Second question, if the above link is not legit, is this website legitimate and would this screen work in my M15x?

Laptop LCD Screen 15.6-inch WideScreen (13.6"x7.6") WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD Glossy LED compatible with Alienware M15X 40 pin connector.

More common than dead backlight is broken LCD cable that also brings power to the backlight. You might want to consider replacing that also (or first) since it's very cheap but requires as much labor as LCD panel replacement.

Dell Alienware M15x LCD Front Bezel

If I crack the front. No big deal.

Also, if the LCD cable was the problem I wouldn't be getting a picture at all when placing a flashlight up to the screen right?

There's several wires inside the LCD cable for the picture and some more for the power. Only one of them needs to break and they are literally hair-thin.

The LCD cable itself is thick bunch of wires, if it goes at once you have been sabotaged :D

are you positive the same cable going from the CCFL inverter to the MB is the same as the LCD cable?

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1645 (model sold around 2006) is the only one I know that has separate cables for LCD and inverter power. I'm pretty sure that there could be another model, but I haven't seen or heard about such in the last 10 years or so.

Ok, so what do I do? Worst case scenario it is confirmed the CCFL is blown or the inverter is bad, best case scenario I upgraded my screen, get a new cord and sell the OEM part on ebay? How do I test to see if it is indeed the cable?

Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in!!! No all kidding aside, now I'm wondering do I pull the trigger on this screen, or test the same screen and deal with potentially the same issue again, what do I have to pull apart to test a new cord?

To replace the panel, you need to dismantle whole display assembly and unplug the LCD cable from it.

To replace the cable, you need to dismantle also the display assembly and some of the computers base too (I don't have access to Alienwares so I don't know exactly what).

    Service manual, anyone? :D
