hey guys...i think my m15x's havin i7820Qm so it must be R2 or R3....but its equipped with BIOS version A09 as iv'e read in many threads m15x can be upgraded in every aspect...as i know it can be upgraded to 460M,5870 both cards....

but i always wanted to know whether it can take 6970M  ,285M with this A09 version of bios.....

any suggestions or please if you have any perfomance benchmarks of GTX 260M,460M,5870,
    6970,285M if any please post :D :D ...!!!

Is it ironic that there's a benchmark thread directly above this one at the moment?

What card do you have in there now?

The 460m is quicker than the 285m. Stock for stock the 460m and the 5870 are about the same, the 5850 is much quicker than either of them when overclocked. The M15x is capable of using a 6970m which is the fastest card we can take probably, no one has tried the 485m but it probably won't work.

Yeah aside from the 5730 and 240m, the 260m is the weakest card around. The best upgrade would be a 6970 but if you can find a 5850 or a 460m for very cheap it would be good too.

I'm looking to upgrade from a 5850 to a 5870, but if I knew how to overclock the 5850 I'd stick with that. Can anyone explain how to overclock a GPU?

    5870 is an overclocked 5850.

To know how to do it, use the search function and check stickies.

Don't trust all the bench from notebookchecks. I had all of those three card and I can tell you that the gtx 260m is the least power one. If you want the best the 6970m is the way to go.

^^Ditto. The Notebookcheck numbers are unreliable, particularly for the 5850M because their analysis was based on an early version from another manufacturer that was underpowered and used GDDR3 vram. If you want to see what a 260M does in the M15x and how it compares to other choices, review the Bennchmark thread results page -- http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...5x-benchmark-thread-part-2-a.html#post6781257.

Don't want to be the killjoy, but maybe just wait a little bit longer to see how exactly the card performs... Everything we've seen so far was on 3dMark run. It seems to work fine but you never know.

Anyway, you can get the card from mxm-upgrade or directly from Dell (if you're lucky, depends on where you live afaik... sometimes they don't want to sell you parts which aren't supposed for your system and they usually want your service tag before selling anything... at least where I live)

You can get it from dell or mxm upgrade. I had order mine from dell, here is the number 18004563355. Mine is estimate to be deliver april 12. Total cost is 575 with free next day shipping. Order from dell you get a 1 year warranty and you know it going to work because inap had use a dell 6970m to test it.

Yeah. All the folks considering the 6970 should wait for the results from the 6970 thread to pan out first. The power requirements may be our undoing with the 6970 xD...

Since Dell is willing to replace your faulty GTX 260M, you could have insisted on having GTX 460M or HD 5850M. They are all equivalent and are much better then GTX 260M. Request Dell to give you GTX 460M or HD 5850M.
