Donutmark isn't relevant, and even if it was, I still want the card's better drivers.

That's funny, are you talking about Furmark? I'm talking 3DMark Vantage runs which is about the only real life benchmark you can compare across the board pretty acurately with GPU's. To each their own, good luck.

It doesn't hurt to post some benchmark results IMO :p

    Yes and No

ASUS uses reverse MXM slots on there GPU's so upgrading is a real pain, you need another ASUS GPU with the same MXM slot to upgrade.

^^ yup, I learned that the hard way.
hate their proprietary crap, usually just ends up being more expensive and much less support since you can't even look at 3rd party options at all.

*sigh* Tuesday someone noticed they're offering it in Japan. It's come out other countries too...but we still don't have it.

Dang it, I REALLY want to go Dell over Asus this time *sigh*

It needs some time for AW USA to update these things.
Anyway, I really wish some 4X SLI would be in M17X too..
    Any Japanese user here??

460M is offered in UK dell and Australia too..Not too far for US now

4x SLI? You'd need 12 billion transistors worth of GPU hardware in there :-D THAT is not going to happen. I'd be totally happy with a 460 though, and ecstatic with a 470 or 480.

I have an estimate of how the 470m will perform. Now the 5870 is essentially a lower clocked desktop 5770, after oc it will perform higher than that and score a Vantage score of ~10000 as we have seen here. The GTX 460m has the same amount of cores (192) as the dekstop 450 GTS infact the same core just lower clocked. The GTS scores a Vantage GPU score of ~8500 and so by the accurate estimation of "give or take" the 460m will score in the area between 7000-8000 and +8000 if one is lucky with overclock.

Considering the 470m has 288 cores, the closest thing would be a desktop GTX 285 with 240 cores. Now this is never going to be accurate as it is only gestimating. The desktop 285 almost reaches 10000 in Vantage. Now even if the architecture is different, the 285 is 512 bit and 470m is GDDR5 blah blah blah I know, for me this gives a reasonable estimate of how the 470m will perform. On a good day the 470m stock will probably hit 9000 Vantage...maybe. We shall also see how much overclocking headroom it has.

Now I understand as these conclusions have no grounds but to me it seems reasonable. I am of course posting this along with the fact that I know I could be talking bollocks but hey, time will tell.

Whew, right off to bed. Take care.

Oh I see what you're saying  I think...well I'm not even a fan of dual GPUs, and quads in a notebook-which would really mean 4 3 billion transistor GPUs seems a BIT much :-D

Hmm....now THAT would need a big power supply :-D

I have to agree with ghost_angles. Other than GTX 460M in M15x, latest computer technologies are generally being purchased in US first. Those not from US will have to fork out more money for the same specification that is bought in US. Sigh, what to do? We could buy it from US and then have it shipped to our country, but such method involves a lot of risk.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA
Oddly enough,we finally have GTX 460m in HK,but still no new XPS model;while you guys have the new XPS model but no GTX 460m option lol

What's more exciting is that...the price of M15X with GTX 460m is still the same as before(with GTX 260m,we don't have 5850 in HK),which costs USD$2153.

    Spec is as follow:
    i7 740qm
    15.6" 1600x900 screen
    4GB RAM
    320GB HDD
    GTX 460m with 1.5GB(not 1GB? ) GDDR5 dedicated memory
    WiFiLink 5300
    9-cell battery
    Mcafee 15 months version
    3 years advanced service plan

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! NO! It's HERE! It's here! It's HERE!

HURRAY! MUST CONFIGURE...see how it works out...

No update on the M17x, but oh well, hopefully the M15x's throttling is over...I hope...and while if I actually used the screen full time I'd want as large as possible, since mostly I use an external monitor I don't really care about that...
