    To be quick:

Is 86ºc a normal temp to the GTX 680m on full load (playing the Starwars Battlefront Demo at Ultra)?

    My I7 720QM stays at 65ºc.

Are your fans set to full speed manually? If the 680M is not overclocked and you are running your cooling at optimum then I would say it is running a bit hot. Shouldn't get above 80C.

Then again other factors are involved such as ambient temp. I hit 90C runing GTA 5 but that was with the 680M OCed to the max.for hours on end.

Battlefront is a new demanding game so perhaps these temps are normal. Check your vents, thermal paste and use hwinfo64 to set fans manually to max speed to maximise cooling. Also don't forget that propping the back of the laptop up an inch will do wonders for the cooling as the fans will be able to suck in more air and that air will be cooler.

Yeah, its hitting 86C but we must remeber that I live on a tropical country (Brasil). The ambient temps here is always about 30C.

And I use a external cooler from Coolermaster, the laptop is always a inch or more from the ground. Vents and termal paste are ok, I had disassembled all the laptop when I bought it (3 months ago), and repasted and cleaned everything.

BTW, whats the maximum GPU fan speed of the m15x? On hwinfo it shows 5080 rpm, I think.

What's your thermal paste? It's important.

I don't know this paste. How old is your tube? How long it is after repaste?

We recommend only IC Diamond or GC Gelid extreme for users. Personally im using GC Gelid extreme because it's very easy to apply. Liquid ultra for experienced users. That way we ensure that thermal paste isn't problem.

Check if heatsink isn't curved or damaged in some way. Also check if screws are good. GPU should not exceed about 82C in heavy load.

Good thermal paste can lower you temperatures even about 10C. That's because some "good" thermal pastes are only working in first weeks and after 3-4 weeks they turn into crap.

My tube has a few months old.

    Check this review:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/thermal-paste-performance-benchmark,3616-18.html

Liquid Ultra is the 3rd place, Cooler Master x1 is on 7th place, difference of 3C of the CPU air cooling

I know but tests like that don't include lifespan of thermal paste as I said earlier.

Vaeryl. The max rpm of the fans is 5000rpm. 30C ambient is very high! 86C is a completely normal temp for such a high ambient temp with this laptop.

The M15x also has 2 heatpipes on the GPU meaning the cooling isn't as great as newer laptops that have 3 or more that GodlikeRU is familiar with.

I wouldn't worry. If I were you I would simply carry on as you are doing and just check those temps don't spend long at temps over 90C. Try that 900/1000 OC I was telling you about if you want.

King of Interns, its Brasil, we here use to say that there's one sun to every brazilian!

I will continue to use it this way, theres nothing I can do. By the way, I think my GPU dont goes over 90C, it seems that it downclocks automatically to prevent overheat. At least, I never saw its over 89C, even when I used the Furmark to stress my card.

As I mentioned before furmark only heats the vrms. Play a demanding game instead and it wont downclock so readily.

And delete furmark and never use it again. It really is terrible pointless program

Games are the best way to test max max temps and test OCs.
