Hey everyone, first time attempting to upgrade an m15x, so newb mistake here. I bought a gtx 860m that came from a clevo. Put it in, white screen after windows comes up. Boots in safe mode fine only to find that there's no hardware ID for my the 860, so my m15x isn't detecting it I suppose. I read that a guy put a 970 in an m15x, any chance anyone can help me figure out how to make an 860m work? I tried putting my 260 back in but somehow the card got borked and now with the 260 the m15x won't post just gets stuck in a recycling boot failure. Please help.

The only other laptop I have is my Alienware 18, but i would really rather not accidentally bork this one too, can i flash it from safe mode on the m15x?

I found a guide on how to do it, but it doesn't say where to get the vbios from?

I checked there, the only vbios i could find on the site flashed just fine, but it didn't solve my problem. However, there really wasn't any way for me to tell if it was a dell bios or not. Now to be clear, i need to update the gpu bios not my mobo bios right?

You could try TechInferno as stated above. That's usually the easiest way to get vBios's

As I stated, I checked there. I have already tried the one 860m vbios that is even on the site, i have PMd a few people and spent 2 days trying to find what i need. Everyone tells me to go to tech inferno, but so far, not so helpful.

    I didn't see that part :p

The vBIOS is what you need, the system's BIOS is another story.

I may be mistaken but i believe in some instances a clevo card won't work in an alienware laptop. Since you have an 18 you really need to make sure the card actually works. If it does the same thing in your 18 you can assume it is not compatible or it may be a bad card.

Check the MXM connector. Give it a delicate wipe. It seems you are unable to read any card installed properly. Perhaps the connector is dirty.

The M15x is a hardy machine and it's compatibility with gpu's is unrivalled. The 18 just doesn't compare. The 860M should work just fine.
