    First off - I'm 35 years old.

I enjoyed games back in about 2004, you simply ran around, picked up guns and used them. I'm talking about Doom3, Quake4 and Half Life type games. There was a little bit of strategy involved, but for the most part you'd just run around and enjoy the scenery.

These days, you seem to need to grasp games on a whole new level. I'd like recommendations on FPS type games that are pretty much point and shoot, like Doom3 or Quake4.

I'm not critisizing these new games, as obviously most people love them, but they down't do it for me.

    Cheers.

Do you know OpenArena? It's like Quake, it's based on the Quake 3 source code but it's open source and free, there are a lot of great maps available and it's fun to play, single player, online or LAN.

Otherwise Unreal Tournament is also pretty much point and shoot. Left4Dead 2 is very simple too... get a gun and kill zombies.

Duke nuk, crisis2, bullet storm, those are all pretty basic point and shoot. If I was trapped on a desert island and could only pick from those three games I'd pick bulletstorm.

I'm 50, started gaming (if you could call it that) by playing "Space Invaders" on a TI99-4A in 1983. Had the original Doom 1.0 and played in on a 386 in 1991 or so. Nothing beat Duke Nukem 3D and Quake II though IMO, though the new Duke Nukem is growing on me and Redneck Rampage had an awesome attitude.

However, I do also find I enjoy Rift and World of Warcraft since they never end - they can't be beat, there is always something more to try and do.

haha it's awesome fun to look back at the console's/pc's of the past.
that indie game vvvvvv brought back so many C64 memories... i half expected to have to type Load"*",8,1

i didn't add duke nukem to the list purely because it has regen health, a console-ish thing. it is great fun though, and is not ashamed to poke fun at itself. besides it's not health, its an "ego meter" lol.

The Half Life laser guided rocket launcher is still the best gun ever. I'd recommend Borderlands and will throw in another vote for the Serious Sam series.

I like going on the 24/7 wake island ones. or else I forget the name of it, but in the search field type in "beta" and it comes up with a really active server that rotates maps.
