What's the performance difference between a 5850 OCd and a 6970? What about heat levels?

Edit: Never mind, checking the other thread for this info! ^^^

Be warned. I talked to Dell last night and they "claimed" they were selling me a 6970m (I even have the part number)...yet they managed to ship a 6950 DESKTOP card instead....the actual 6970m costs $569 from Dell. IF you're brave enough to order, make sure you're getting Dell part number V9XKH or it isn't a 6970m. Hope this works for all that try it.

This guy i talked to refrenced it from the M17x R3 he was really eager to make these sales and was a great help with my Alienware/Dell woes. He fully understands what we are doing so when he sells you the card he has to warn you that it isnt ment for out M15x but its just a check the block thing so if something happends it doesnt fall on him.

the part retains a warranty but the system never was intended to use this card. So just on the card are you covered

And I will lose the warranty I have on my system, or will it cound as "accidental damage" if I break it?

They will take forever to ship the card. I order from Dell at first and they had postponed my order two time so I f finally give up and order it from aikimox.

But the fan not working correctly is an annoying issue. Waiting is worth it to not deal with an issue like that.

How do we know that the fans work properly with the Dell 6970m in the M15x?

Unless I read wrong, inap said that when they did the swap.

Maybe we ought to check with Inap. My memory was that he recalled that the fans worked, but didn't really test whether they adjusted to temps, etc. Remember, he didn't have much time with that setup, and fan operation wasn't a priority. He'll drop in and educate us before long.

If I did misunderstand, then that makes the decision easier for me. Aspire 522 for sure, I hate manually adjusting things on a daily basis.

Sure hope your memory prevails. I feel the same way about manual adjustments in ordinary use.

Fans are working with the Dell card, as well as HDMI/DP audio... I updated my thread yesterday. Strigae from T|I confirmed both.

Does Strigae have the 6970m installed in a M15x?
