well I just got back from holiday, and I have very good news, my friend that I have been nagging for over 2yrs now has finally sold me his broken Alienware m15x for £120 :D

even better news is I have it up and running again with almost no layout of money at all :D :D :D

now I need to know, would it be possible to put a AMD Firepro M6000 in this laptop ?
I ask because it uses a max of 43w and is the Equal to a AMD 7850/7870 card and its bloody cheap !
    any advice ?

Are you on Tech Inferno forum? You should ask svl7, he is the (only) person to ask, should you need a modded vBIOS etc.

Good luck, and if the card does not work out...you can always get a 7970M/8970M like the most of us and run practically anything out there.

right great news continues, the M6000 arrived today and works perfectly simply plug and play.
heatsink fits perfectly to the card and its x-bracket, driver install went perfectly.
I have full native control of fans/dp/audio both internal and external monitors, im very happy indeed.
temps are great, 22c/25c and bootup and settles at 29c after 10mins idle.
temps after running heaven benchmark hit 57c max this was after 55mins running it and I got bored so I ended it :D
all in all a great little card for next to nothing and new with warrenty. very happy indeed.

btw. core clock is 800MHz and mem is 1000MHz

Nice find! That little sucker is what basically a 7970M chopped in half? 640 shaders vs 1280 and 128bit vs 256bit?

What do you score in 3dmark11? A very nice little card and can probably be OCed a hell of a lot more than the 7970M making it better than half as good both OCed! Anyway for 75 quid it is a steal!

I just did some research the firepro 6100 is even more impressive! 768 SP and very high core/mem speeds. It performs like a 770M in games apparently! On ebay you could have one for 150 quid! About 50-80 pounds cheaper than the 770M!

Lol! Thankfully my daughter is only 1 year old and usually girls aren't into expensive computers anyway haha!

That score is pretty good I daresay! OCed the hell out of I am sure you can easily score 5000 points plus. Perhaps even up to stock 7970M speeds!

How are you getting on with your FirePro card? I'd be interested to see some 3dmark11 scores if you have time.

As soon as im able to get my hands on a 920xm I will config the system/card for some overall benchies and see what it is able to get.
till then im more or less getting it back to a "as new condition" as I can.
but concidering the card is only 43w card im hoping for plenty of room in overclocking it :D

Hopefully thermals are great too. What are the default clock speeds on this card? Is memory over a 192 bit bus?

128 bit I believe. It is pretty much a 7970M chopped in half.
