    Hello, new here.:hi2:

I'm considering buying one of these cards (would love a 7970m but can't afford it) and I would like to know which one will get me better bang for my buck.

I like the 670mx but was told by eurocom that they do not offer or support this card in the m15x. It's cheaper, runs cooler and according to notebookcheck, it performed better than the 6990m in benchmarks. This is my preferred card but I've only seen a couple people using it in the m15x. Eurocom didn't respond as to why they do not support it in the m15x.

I am well aquanted with the reputation of the 6990m but the upgrade kit is expensive ($114 more than 670mx). It runs hotter but according to videobenchmark.net it has a better performance rating than the 670mx (oddly the 6970m has a better rating than the 6990!!!). This card IS supported by eurocom.

Can someone help me to figure out which card would be a better buy?

The 675MX is the better choice, but I don't think it's been shown to work yet.

    I'm in a similar situation, as much as I'd love a 7970m I just can't afford one.
I'm looking at the 6970m as a cheaper option or just wait until the 8870m causes price drops in 7970s :)

Yep, go for the 675mx. I think they do not work because of the power consumption(tdp). A 240watt psu will be needed for the 675mx to work I think.

I am in the process of ordering a 675mx for my M15x.

I chickened out and took the 6990m. The 670mx and 675mx are relatively new and untested and I don't want to be a guinea pig. If things do go t*ts up then atleast I'll have access to support and plenty of reference material.

    Thanks for replies everyone.

I am potentially also getting a 6990m so let me know how installation goes. I plan on sanding down the x-bracket rather than using a copper shim.
Will use modded drivers from here (svl7's post)
Anything else I need to know?

i never had to use any modded drivers. if you use svl7's guide you should be fine..... make sure the heatpipe doesn't make contact with any part of the card

You could also try http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/699543-how-install-6970m-6990m-7970m-into-r2-without-new-screews-moding-x-bracket.html]this although you wouldn't have the c-clip to hold it in securely anymore. I imagine the screws would come loose eventually.

I would go for the 6990m. They are pretty solid.

So my 6990m is the Clevo card and I managed to install it fine (although I may still do the x-bracket mod) but the temperature diode reading has to be wrong and there is no fan control.

Idle temperatures are 70-80 degrees and I don't dare risk running any applications. Could just be the incompatibility issue that is causing weird temperature readings (as exhaust from gpu is very cool) or its the poorly touching heat sink (due to amd x-bracket not applying pressure to die). Either way no fan control is annoying and these temperatures are scaring me!

I'm no expert but 70-80 degrees idle is WAY too high. My idle temp right now is 39 degrees (Clevo card with a cooling pad). I would go back and repaste and make sure all your thermal pads are in direct contact with the heatsink. Then make sure there is sufficient pressure on the die.

I didn't have to do any modifications to the x-bracket that came with the card and used IC Diamond 7 thermal paste. Download HwINFO64 to adjust your fan settings.

Dang. I'm getting lines from side to side and white pillars to the left and right of centre. Once this starts happening the screen usually goes light blue (not BSOD) and I have to do a hard reset. Is this a driver issue?

The only way I can log ino my system now is through safemode. if I try logging in normally i get an instant bsod, something about shutting down for protection. Even now there are so many lines and dots on my screen I can hardly see what I'm typing. It was working fine for about an hour after I installed it this afternoon and now it's nothing but problems.Help!

*UPDATE* I downloaded the 13.1 drivers and things seem ok for the moment. Temps are still hovering between 38C and 40C.

*UPDATE 2* Nope, still getting random black screens but atleast the lines and bsod's are gone. Back to running in safe mode. Since I know someone is going to ask this, yes I am running A09 bios.

Gah this is really really annoying. Can someone please help!

So my files (tool) aren't able to make a dent on the amd x-bracket so I've had to use the x-bracket from my gtx460m until I can grind down the amd one.

I've re-pasted twice and made sure important bits have thermal pads on. My temperatures are still idling around 50 degrees and with chrome open they are 60-70 degrees!
    What the ********?

Also I was playing Spec Ops the line on high and every now and again the display would freeze, go black and then picture would return.

I'm using the 13.2 catalyst drivers. Should I try another driver version?

Really appreciate any help as I'm starting to regret buying this card.
