I've never heard of hinge problems with the M15x. Maybe you are talking about the Area 51 version. If that's the case you need to post it in the Legacy forums. We don't really have experience with the pre-Dell models so we're not much help unfortunately.

I am assuming you are referring to the older Area-51 m15x. Those were notorious for hinge issues. I had one and they replaced the screen lid twice but it kept cracking because the plastic mounts that hold the metal hinge to the lid were very poorly designed and weak. If you check out the Area-51 legacy forum, you'll see some guys used epoxy to reinforce the plastic hinge mounts with great success. I doubt Dell would do anything about it at this point as they seem to, as you perfectly put it, weasel their way around supporting the older systems. The second time I called them, I had a guy bluntly tell me to sell it and get a new one. That really set me off. After a couple of supervisor calls, they accepted a return, but I got my money refunded and ended up getting one of the new models later on. Keep calling them. If it's under warranty they are obligated to come up with some sort of solution. Perhaps ask them to give you an M14x as a replacement.

thanks guys i'll check the other area. Im not that tech savvy im just into my games. My laptop was purchased just after dell took over

And yes it is very much still under warranty but more than anything i was hoping for your experience with the customer service.

As i said it was just really weird that one minute yes no problem replace with an M15x or M17x as your system is/was hi-spec next minute nope your fault, sod off!

As for selling it etc. etc. or repairing it myself far too late for that. Screen doesnt work and power supply has snuffed it but i'll take it to the other forum :)

    thanks guys
