I was just playing GTA and the game froze, totally unresponsive. I held down power button to switch off. When I tried to turn it on again it powers up briefly then powers down again and repeats this cycle. I suspect its the graphics card so I've taken it out and put it in a non-static bag. Going to leave it there over night and try tomorrow.

Anyone got any suggestions or troubleshooting tips? This could, potentially be a very sad day and the end of the road for my beloved m15x

I had this issue. Following the initial powering up after the freezing it fired up the lights and fans then died. Never to work again after. Got another mobo same deal, than suddenly my old one worked again. Still too this day couldn't explain it.

Let's see how u make out tomorrow.

Put it all back together today and no joy! Sad day. UPGI did you take the entire mobo out and if so, how long did you leave it before it worked again? I'm still convinced its the GPU.

Can anyone else suggest anything? Please!!!

Anyone have an old GPU or CPU for m15x they'd be willing to send to me? I can post it back after a day or so. I'll cover all costs. Preferably UK.

    Thanks guys.

did you try turning on the laptop without the GPU?
if you don't get a led code for faulty GPU (scroll and caps flashing, num solid) try removing the CPU next...
If you don't get a led code for faulty CPU (scroll flashing, caps and num solid) i remove Screen....
if still no led code (should be scroll and num flashing, caps solid) i'd say it's the motherboard....

Great advice! Removed CPU and still not flashy lights and turns off quickly. Unplugged screen and the same. The laptop won't even turn on without GPU plugged in but I think that's normal?

Only leaves GPU and Motherboard left. Two most expensive components!

the laptop should turn on but you would get nothing on the screen. It does sound like motherboard or some other mobo component... not really, you can get motherboard for pretty cheap :)

If it's not too much of a problem id' try to boot with minimum config, if it still doesn't it's the mobo.

Without GPU laptop doesn't turn on at all. Even with GPU fan plugged in it still doesn't turn on at all. Not sure if this is just an M15x thing or just my laptop.

I haven't been able to find a cheap motherboard on eBay. I'll ask in the marketplace just in case it is motherboard.

    Thanks for your help Max.

Could be your CPU overheating. Happened to me today when the fan suddenly stopped working. Make sure it's working by re-seating the fan connector to the MOBO. If not, it's probably your GPU.

I would rule out CPU/GPU before thinking about the motherboard.

Well that is definitely odd, it should turn on even without the GPU... only requirements for turning on are the CPU and GPU fan and keyboard as far as i remember.

I wasn't talking about ebay, there sadly arent any cheap motherboards on ebay...
    here:

    or
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Warr...-Notebook-PC-Mainboard-0G5VT/32334939825.html

I would pay extra for that DHL shipping unless you are ok with waiting up to one month for the mobo.

    No problem ;)

Please read the entire thread, he left the laptop for a day and it still didn't turn on, If the CPU was overheating it would start back up pretty soon, it doesn't need days to cool off.

Yeh I've seen that but with DHL shipping it comes to about £80! Would prefer to get one from Europe and for a bit cheaper!

@fatboyslimmer Well you will have to make sure it's really the motherboard first.

@vr_fox Yeah, it's pretty safe if you buy from reputable sellers. (haven't had any problems so far...)

I got mine off eBay, USA seller. Sounds like you're having the EXACT same issue I had at this point.

I did everything, removed the gpu, screen, hdd, memory, cpu, every component one by one. Went as far as installing a different gpu even. Nothing would let it fire up, if I recall correctly my power light would glow for a moment and then fade out, in and out and then out completely. Very frustrating.

After waiting a week for my new motherboard to arrive, I installed it. It was an exact repeat of when the scenario originally happened; turn it on, everything would light up, then die. All it would do after it the power key would again light up, die, and fade in and out a few times.

Frustrated I tore the new motherboard out, tossed it in the box and convinced myself to put it all back together with the original board. Humored myself and tried to turn it on and it suddenly worked. Got as far as the Window screen and it died. Attempted again and got into the BIOS, which it was fine. I turned off a few things like the wireless, ethernet, bluetooth, bunch of integrated chipsets. Restarted, and it booted into Windows. Turned everything back on slowly. Knock on wood, haven't had any issues since.

It's COMPLETELY unexplainable. Really is. My only conclusion is to ensure all grounds, pins etc are all clean and contacting. I scrutinized this when I reassembled it and I'm sure this may have played key.

    Best of luck.
