    Hi people,

I currently have an M15x I bought about 3 years ago, its the i7 model with 4gb RAM and the GTX260m. I bought Elder scrolls online yesterday and when I run the graphics on medium and 1080 there not smooth, although it is playable just a bit jerky. Im thinking of upgrading the graphics card but don't know a great deal, ive been reading up on them and it seems the next one up is the 460m, I know this is still old but I cant afford to spend much, but ive seen you can get these for about £100, would it make much difference? or should I try and stretch to the 580m or something? thanks

Definitely don't get a 580m it runs too hot and uses too much power. You should be able to find a used GTX 460m for around £50 on ebay. More expensive than that is not good value for money.
Your best option is to buy used. Some good choices are:
    6970m
7970m - amazing performing and just plug and play.
    Gtx 460m
Gtx 660m - will require some new screws and a tweaked driver inf file
Gtx 680m - probably the best performer in the M15x but it requires flashing a new vbios and using a tweaked driver inf file.

Thanks for that mate, ive decided to now sell mine as some of these decent graphics cards are like 200-300 so i can sell mine and use that extra to get a m14 with a 750m card and a lot better spec laptop, thanks

The gtx 680m is a lot better than the gt 750m. The only thing an m14x would would improve may be the CPU, but if you get an i7 920xm or 940xm AND a gtx 680m on your m15x you would truly have a lot better spec than the m14x.

Better than the gt 750m, but weaker than the gtx 680m. If you want to stay cheap, just upgrade your m15x and keep it for a few more years. Otherwise, get an m17x. That's my opinion anyway, you pick which you consider the best solution :)

The 680m will have great performance. 7970m is also a regularly chosen VC for this machine.

Yeh I would go for 7970M personally (and I did) because its just plug and play in the M15x.
Its pretty easy to flash an undervolted vBIOS as well, even running stock clocks so the card can run nice and cool.
This is assuming you can get it for a good price, otherwise the GTX 680M is a much better overclocker and runs nice and cool, but you need to flash svl7's tweaked vBIOS and the inf. driver tweak.
