I figured out what's wrong with my computer. Well... mostly. It's not so much the fact that I'm hearing the inside of my computer when I'm recording as it is that the microphone jack isn't working. It seems that when I plug in my headset microphone, I'm still, for some odd reason, recording with my built-in mic. I discovered this when I was playing with my new headset. It has an option to turn off the microphone... and the microphone was off (which I didn't know) while I was recording yet when I played the audio I could hear myself as well as the loud rumbling of my fans. Does anyone know how to fix this?

You need to diagnose firer of its hardware or software. Maybe reinstall the drivers and see if it helps. If its hardware, it could be could card chip or simply busted jack, busted jack can be due to bent/worn out pins or cold solder joint, in any case replacing jack isn't that hard if you can use a soldering iron. Busted/faulty sound card is well hard, motherboard would need replacing.

Have you tried changing the recording devices in the audio manager?
