Just wondering what it takes to break a graphics card...I've been trying to get off the backplate that came with my 6970 and it is well stuck on there.

I tried prying it off with a little screwdriver but started flexing the card a bit so stopped.

I was just wondering how much force/bending these cards can actually take. From what I'm aware of static is a bigger problem?

Don't use a (metal) screwdriver use a plastic prying tool or similar.

DON'T DON'T FLEX IT, BE VERY CAREFUL
I also had the same problem and I went kinda rough on it trying to take off the backplate and when I got it off there were some soldering that broke or something and the card was broken after that, I had it repaired so it's fine now but BE VERY CAREFUL TRYING TO TAKE IT OFF

My problem was not only the backplate stuck, the heatsink was stuck on it while inside the laptop so if you only have the backplate stuck just BE VERY CAREFUL, DO NOT FLEX THE CARD

I used a hairdrier to warm the backplate adhesive which made it easier to remove.

Good idea Mike, I'm going to try that tonight!

Sweet, got the sucker off +rep to Mike for the hairdryer idea! :p

Got my xplate grinded down now, much tighter fit with the heatsink.
