Something is wrong with my microphone. I have two microphone settings. One, I'm guessing is for the plugged in variation and the other is for the one that is built in. When I have my headphone set plugged in I hear a sharp static noise. When I try to make a recording in audacity with this I hear a sound like my fan is running, even when it's absolutely quiet, and I can hear an evident echo in the play back. Yet when I disable the first microphone in the recording settings the static noise disappears from the headphones but I can still hear the fan type noise when I make a recording in audacity. It's as if the recording can pick up the inside of my fan. The same thing seems to happen even when my headset microphone isn't plugged in. Does anyone know what is causing this problem or how to fix it? Thank you!

Have you tried the headset on a different PC or a different Mic on yours?
