    Hey everyone,

I've run into 2 critical Windows failures lately when installing Dell drivers on a freshly installed Windows partition. I have an M15X with 1x 256GB PM800 samsung ssd and a 1x 500GB Momentus XT drives. I have Win7 64bit installed on the SSD for performance and boot times.

When installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers from the Alienware page I get a boot error: STOP: 0x0000007B and when trying to boot into safemode it stalls at CLASSPNP.SYS and then BSOD's. Windows repair is unable to fix it, and booting up with Last Known Good Configuration still fails. This has happened twice. Is there any way to resolve this issue? Should I not be installing the intel stuff from the Dell page?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Is SATA mode set to AHCI in your BIOS?

Is that 500GB Momentus being operated as an external drive? Any other external drive (CD/DVD/BR) connected via USB? If so, unplug it and try to reboot.

    hmmm...that's odd,i did a clean install of windows 7 64-bit
on my OCZ Vertex 2 SSD twice, both times installed the
Intel Rapid Storage Tech thing, nothing weird showed up.
program was installed on the SSD local disc itself.

The 500GB is in a optical bay caddy. There are no external drives of any kind connected. The bios is set to AHCI. This is the second time it's happened to me and it's really annoying cause there's no fix for it. Nothing I've tried or solutions I've found were able to fix the problem besides another Win7 install. I'm going to image my drive and then try installing the file linked in that post.

i wouldn't bother with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology stuff, doesn't really do anything for your ssd.
i found that using the default windows driver is best for ssd performance.

Actually, I've had the best performance from my SSD (Intel 160GB X25-M) using the default Microsoft AHCI controller/driver after extended experience with IRST 9.6.2.1001 and 10.1.00.1018.

I keep getting conflicting reports everywhere I go, some people tell me that I need it, others tell me that I don't... I just want the best performance from this PM800, it has TRIM already.

hahah rev. yeah i'm using the same driver you are using.

egm92 just uninstall the intel rapid stuff, or do a bench with it then do a bench with the default driver, and see the difference for yourself.
