Thx King. I decided to buy it because it was too good a deal to pass up. Also theres a 14 day return policy so if it doesnt work I can return it. Hopefully it does because then i've taken my first step to upgrading to a 7970m :D

So just installed my new CPU but now whenever I start up my m15x it freezes during windows login

Edit: just tried booting it in safe mode and it works fine. When I check my bios and control panel it says under processor genuine Intel CPU @1.87 GHz. I thought 920xms were 2.0ghz??

My bios also says my a/c adapter is 150w. Do I need the 240w to run the 920xm?? My GPU is an amd 6990m

Oh yea and I'm running bios a09

ES are engineering samples and may run hotter or have errors in them compared to retail samples.

You will really want a 240W PSU when running a 100W GPU and 55W CPU (155W not including anything else).

If you can try to install throttlestop and see what is going on with the chip. Check the settings and see if you can bump it up to 920xm stock speeds and indeed whether the turbo limits are unlocked.

Also try a power drain if you haven't already done so and see whether the system likes it a little better.

You will have to put the old card in to put throttlestop on of course. Also worth doing a complete driver removal before putting the new card in.

I installed throttle stop and it works fine when i have my 740 qm in but with the 920xm in I get an error saying "could not open winring0.DLL"

The winring0.DLL file is there too

To be honest I Dont really trust this card. Im just gonna return it and buy another 1. Thanks for all your help and I'll be back if I have problems with the new 920xm. Thanks again

I recently replaced my 720 qm with a 940xm but haven't removed or updated drivers. It seems to be working fine but would you recommend still doing this?
