And apparently it only comes with a 90 day warranty or was the guy i talked to clueless?

I was kinda hoping it would be linked with my 4 year on my laptop =/

Also, one thing i wanted to ask for those that have also bought one from Dell...

Did it show up on your Order status as

    "Card,Graphics,Hard Drive,5850,Professional"

I figured that it would have a more defining name i guess. The only reason i was a little worried is that he first said that the 5850 is Out of stock. Which then he said he wanted to double check and found one?

    Yeah, i loved my 5870.

Thing is i've been watching more and more movies... I've been wanting to watch them on my HDTV but can't with the 5870 since only video is transferred. =/

Otherwise, i would have kept the 5870.

It's great for games if that's all you're going to use it for ;)

if its new then it should come with a 1 year warranty from the factory
if they are selling you a refurbs = used card then that may explain why they are not giving you a full warranty

I actually was considering getting a 5850 from dell, but I wanted a 5870 because they get a bit warmer and it gets to 50 degrees Fahrenheit in my bedroom, also I only play games, so not much problem with no hdmi. Good luck with the 5850 :)

Hmm i also noticed this at the end of the Order status for the card.

"Warranty Longer of 90 Days or Remainder of System Warranty/ Svc Contract. 21 Day Return. Parts may be Reconditioned."

So, i hope my 4 year carries the card with it... lol.

@Darth, Thanks. Hope you enjoy the card. I know i did. Give me a call and i'll help ya out with setting her up.

It does follow w/e you have left on your laptop's warranty.

How much did it cost you?

you know what, I think i might have a MOBO problem, covered by warranty, and I should call them and try to get it fixed before I install this, so they dont see a red card and freak out, if they even know its supposed to be green

Well honestly the tech won't really care. The only time it's a problem is when you send it in to a Depot which you should NEVER do considering we all pay for Next business day technicians in our Warranty.

Either way, it would be a good idea to get that problem fixed before putting the card in to avoid any mishaps.

    What's the problem exactly?

@ Anodize- It was $310.58 with shipping.

@ Thumper - I did it by phone. I called them and gave them the part number i got from another thread that Inap posted in. They said it was out of stock but then the rep said he'd double check and got one for me. I just hope it's not a refurb.

The problem is that sometimes, upon startup, it turns on full fans blasting everywhere and then this little beep sound and then it's totally shut down again and it repeats usually less than 10 times but sometimes it can go on like 50 times. I am looking into possible solutions still because I'm not sure it's a mobo problem.

You best call them up and check that its been added to your service tag so if you run into any problems in the future, you'll know you're covered rather than finding out the warranty ended in the 1st 3 months. It happens, especially with Dell, there isnt consistency so you always gotta make sure and check.
1 question :) did you upgrade the 6300 yourself or came with your system/bought from dell? i want a part number for one :(

Ouch, try maybe a bios update? If not, DEFINITELY call them out for that.

Yeah, i might call them once i get the card in. I'll play off as if something is wrong and see if it is linked with my service tag. If they say it isn't i'll talk my way into having them update it or something lol.

As for the 6300, I bought it off of Babyhemi. Sorry =/

EDIT: Well damn... After looking up my service tag they have ALL the wrong parts and only a a few months left on the warranty linked to my replacement. Time to call Dell up and "converse" some more -_-

Thank god i found this out now instead of when the warranty runs out.

yeah for sure the only reason i would ever send anyting into the depot is if i where looking for them to send me a new system if i knew they didnt have the parts or didnt have any of the old units left

i woudl then return my unit to stock
and send it to the depot knoweing there is a 50 50 chance of me getting a newer system better
or atleast having the same parts replaced with newer
    \
and i have only doen this 3 times in the lsat 7 years and 2 of those times the systems where 2 years old didnt make them anymroe
and they send me newer models like there was the 1720 that was repalced with the 1730

there was the xps swaped with the studio xps with by far better parts
